Urgent Call for Conservation Volunteers!
The Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society is in urgent need of volunteers to support a large monitoring project of the highly invasive European Green Crab in #BoundaryBay.
If not controlled, this crab will decimate the crucial eelgrass beds, salt marsh, and all the marine invertebrates in the area.
The Fraser Delta (incl. Boundary Bay) is the top-rated Important Bird Area of 600 designated sites in Canada. Protecting this site is essential for B.C.'s biodiversity!
To get involved, please contact Marg Cuthbert of The Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society by email at [email protected]

I’ve spent many weekends here during my younger years in my teens and twenties at med school. For those of you that are younger , embrace hard work , love the labour , and the people you’ll meet.. it’ll be part of your fabric as you go through your life journey .
What your seeing is one step of a multi step process when you dry clean your shirt.
The shirts sorted, stains soaked, washed, dried, pressed, packed - for £1.80
The work that goes into the labour intensive jobs Is overlooked & under appreciated on a daily basis..
Instagram is a place for showing off the high life (that drives mental health issues in so many)
I’m taking a moment this Easter/ Ramadan to appreciate the tough labour jobs and people
As a dr if I could I would prescribe a labour job “low skilled low paid” for a period of time. I think it’s so formative and humbling & GROUNDING
To appreciate what we have - we know gratitude is central to good mental health.. & practice calming the desire to have more and feel envy or resentment or anger for what we don’t have.
Attachment to possessions drives depression, anxiety and many mental health issues & unhealthy relationships
Being grateful for what we have , whilst desiring to drive impact and value - enjoying what you reap sensibly and taxing your wealth by giving charity all helps to loosen one’s attachment to £$/possessions.
Giving space and time to reflect , we can always learn and evolve if we look in the right places and take a moment to muse

“Clara Barton is absolutely one of my guiding heroes who reminds me to be brave and creative and help where you see help is needed."
Jessica Jones is a @socalredcross volunteer who uses Clara Barton's legacy as a guiding force to help others. She deployed for the first time last year in December to help people affected by the Kentucky tornadoes and became a COVID-19 Safety Officer.
While deployed, she not only helped ensure volunteers and the public were safe and following proper safety procedures, but also helped make holiday bags for volunteers who were deployed for the holidays.
Thank you, Jessica, for raising your hand to help people in need and serving in honor of Clara's legacy.

Say hello to @redcrossmo volunteer Kate Appleman. Her Red Cross journey started in high school when she joined her school's Red Cross club. Kate began helping organize blood drives and arranging video cards to send to veterans.
With the help of her local Red Cross, Kate began organizing drives on her own and has participated in or organized 2️⃣ 3️⃣ blood drives at high schools and colleges.
In addition to volunteering in her own community, she has helped high schools in nearby towns develop clubs so young people can learn the value of volunteering and connect with the Red Cross.
🎉 She also recently received the 2022 Red Cross Youth Impact Award in her region. Way to go, Kate!

What inspired Shivum Kapoor to give volunteering a try? It all started in high school when he heard some friends mention volunteering in their community by installing smoke alarms, teaching emergency preparedness, and assembling first aid kits.
Since then, he hasn't looked back. ➡️ He served as president for his Red Cross club and sat on the @redcrossnorcalcoastal's Board of Directors as a voting youth member.
Shivum currently serves on the National Youth Council which is made up of 13 youth volunteers who use their creativity, dedication, and energy to promote young volunteers as an organizational resource.
He hopes during his term to continue to support regions with youth and young adult programs while also inspiring new regions to create programming for their volunteers. For him, the opportunity to work alongside such motivated and accomplished council members has truly been an extraordinary privilege.
Thank you, Shivum, for all your dedication to our mission. 💪🏾
