A “Need to be seen as complex” is commonly created from past trauma, tragedies and/or adversities in life. However, even though it was the events of our past that created the complex, the presence of the complex in our life influences our current beliefs, interpretation and behaviors in everyday life situations and circumstances.
Some common need to be seen as complexes are;
Need to be seen as smart,
Need to be seen as competent or capable Need to be seen as superior to others
Need to be seen as agreeable or liked by others
Need to be seen as a rescuer or helping others.
The Curious Thing about “Need to be seen as complexes” is that they can encourage the best and worst in us at times. That is why it is called a complex.
For example someone may say of a need to be seen as Superior complex, that the individual is confident, likes to debate, success driven and competitive.
However when not balanced with humility and respect for others, It can also be seen as arrogant, insensitive, prideful and a one upper.
