“The mountain top, for me at least, is making positive impact in my community, knowing that I helped to change not only my life but other people’s lives.” – Khalifa, Roots & Shoots alum
#wednesdaywisdom Khalifa’s childhood dream of following in Dr. Jane’s footsteps led her to join the Roots & Shoots National Youth Leadership Council #rsnylc, participating in many community projects—including a favorite, which involved creating art to send to soldiers in Iraq—and even meeting youth leaders in Tanzania! Today she is studying for her Master’s degree at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and hoping to one day use stem cells to treat psychiatric and developmental disorders.

Only 4% of visuals that include Asian Americans have them doing creative hobbies. Visuals mostly depict white collar jobs and STEM.
This Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, ADMERASIA and @gettyimages have come together to inspire brands, agencies, and creatives to make inclusive visual choices by fueling the creation and circulation of imagery which is all at once powerful, reflective, and authentic in its depictions of the entire Asian American spectrum. On the road again. NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with the Orion spacecraft atop has arrived at Launch Pad 39B at @NASAKennedy Space Center in Florida in preparation for a final test before the @NASAArtemis I Moon mission. Stacked on the mobile launcher and mounted on the crawler-transporter, it took 10 hours and 28 minutes for SLS and Orion to travel four miles, or 6.4 kilometers, from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launchpad. The trip began at 5:47 p.m. EDT Thursday, March 17, and the 322-foot (98-meter) tall, 3.5-million-pound (1.6-million-kg) rocket and spacecraft arrived at the pad at 4:15 a.m. EDT on March 18. During the upcoming final test, known as the wet dress rehearsal, the Artemis I launch team will practice loading and unloading propellant into and from the rocket’s tanks and run through a full launch countdown. The uncrewed #Artemis I mission will lead the way for missions to land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon. I have been working with Gitanjali Rao, fifteen-year old problem-solver and innovator. She is a leading light in promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics for children and young people across the world. Most of all for girls, who are under-represented in the sciences, and particularly in ICT, a growth area for employment in the future.
In late December 2021, students from Samlot High School, a school MJP Foundation supports, connected with Gitanjali on the other side of the world, to inspire and be inspired. They talked about observation, learning, perseverance, courage, and communication. Gitanjali has engaged with more than 50,000 students around the world.
In the past two years, Covid has done so much damage to the learning and opportunities of children - but students like these in Cambodia are fighting to continue and finish their education. I love seeing these young people meeting across languages and cultures, to encourage, support and teach each other.
