Fitness is not all about competitions and looking jacked AF (but I mean who doesn’t like that added benefit) but sometimes it’s about survival.
If you look at these two photos, your probably won’t see a huge difference. I still have a tummy, could be more toned, Anddddd that’s ok. I’ve been in survival mode majority of my life, esp during this time frame.
Between these two photos, what you don’t see is what I had to survive:
•Working 6-7 days every week, sometimes going months without a break
•Selling my house
•Late nights of being on call and some nights of being up for 36 hours
•Being hospitalized myself for not taking care of me
•Getting a 5 year in the making manuscript accepted literally at the last minute for a dead line
•Short staffing at work, picking up extra shifts bc your patients need you
•Buying a new house
•Compassion fatigue
•Packing said house and moving to a new city to start all over, again
•Working out every single day no matter what bc your mental health depends on it
•Getting bronchitis, again.
•Doing 75 hard
•Rude, horrible, disrespectful clients on a daily basis
•Finishing a rigorous surgical residency program
•Working in a toxic environment
•Living w high functioning anxiety
•A best friend having cancer, going through surgery and radiation therapy
•Acceptance to take my last set of credentialing boards
•Getting up at 3 am to work on paper work or study bc if you don’t, you’re letting everyone down
•Profession with the highest suicide rate and burn out
This list could go on and on and on.
Not everyone’s journey is the same. Some are here for getting jacked. Some are for running so many miles. Some are for looking a certain way to win a prize. And some are just choosing to survive in a world that doesn’t give you a break. For me that’s what my journey is, training for surviving life. It’s ok to have a different journey than someone else. But whatever that journey is, be proud of how far you’ve come and all the obstacles you conquered to be get here.
