A few months ago I got to gaff @jessiereyez video for the song Fraud for DP @jackyanchen and director @emmaaverage. At any given time we had minimum 16 @asteraofficial Titan Tubes being controlled via CRMX with a @ratpaccontrols Satellite and @blackoutlightingconsole, flickering their lives away. With a total of 40 Titan’s in play by the end of the day spread across 4 different sets in an industrial office building slated for demolition. By far the biggest heroes of the day were our @dmglumiere fixtures though. In the first frame, and any frame featuring “the throne” you’ll see a glorious soft overhead light which was created by rigging 2x Maxi Mix’s in the ceiling via daisy chains and carabiners to the fixture’s built in rigging points. We played them bare without their diffusion panels and added a belly of a single sheet of 216, and some grid cloth then Macgyver’d some flourescent style louvres underneath them. As well, following us from set to set we had a DMG Mini Mix w/ an @dopchoice snap grid. These fixtures are small but powerful, and we could throw it up in the drop ceiling at a moments notice or as quick backlight like in the lock picking scene of the video, or in the case of the throne room again, place it hidden in the set pieces alongside some CRMX capable Dash’s. We had an @brokehlighting 6x6 and 4x4’s that lived in front of some S60’s which were controlled by @lumenradio Moonlites for the day as the skin tones of our talent ran the gamut, so having something that works for that was a must. So our toilet paper holder broke. I like fixing things. Electronics, furniture, lamps and lighting fixtures… apparently even toilet paper holders. The spot weld holding this little column in place just *boink* fell off. So I learned that using MAPP gas, and some solder with silver in it, I could braze my way to success. I ground out a new pocket for the little column to sit in, sandpapered off some of the finishing and roughed it up a bit. 30min later, plus some dremel work, 60 , 120 and 220 grit sandpaper… it was like new. This thing was like $15 and probably coulda just been trashed. But the financial costs to the rest of the world when this thing gets thrown out is likely wayyyyy higher than that. Another year, another Narwhal on the Gnar-Wall at East York Skatepark. Forever drawing sad looking cartoon style characters. Thanks for all your awesome organizing efforts @ey_pep and everyone who came out and volunteered their time. This marks 15 years of this skatepark being open, and 15 years of so many people volunteering their time to make it awesome. Fun fact; one of my first paying gigs related to the film industry, was for a short lived website called “Skateboard Village” out of BC who contracted me to film a video about this park while it was still under construction. Haven turned two yesterday. I’m crying. I can’t exactly explain why. They’re not tears of joy, and I’m certainly not sad. But I think it’s like a mixture of a maintenance cry, and just general overwhelming waves of love for this child and my body is just looking for an outlet. He’s everything I could’ve ever dreamed, and then a buncha stuff beyond that I could’ve never imagined. I’ve said this before, but it’s not like he filled some part of me that was missing. I’m whole- was whole- without him in my life. Thing is, the core constituents of this love have been there all along, just waiting to be grown and nourished by him. He’s wonderful. He’s my friend. He’s my child. My love for him knows no bounds. He is intelligent, and so observant. He has the mind of an engineer and the heart of a clown. The gifts he’s given @tevtevlin and I are bountiful and unending. The things both tangible and intangible he’s brought into my life are impossible to summarize.

@chynnalewis video for “Where I Left You” is out now. This one was a real pleasure to work on as a gaffer. It was the first gig @markklassen and I did together with me in a key role. The nighttime shots in the field were done under the strict supervision of two pumper trucks of fire fighters. We lit it with an @aputure.lighting 600D w/ @rosco Medium Amber running off a 2k putt putt placed about 450ft ( !!! ) away hidden in the trees providing a kicker on Chynna frame left and a 300X powered by the solar batteries on site w/ a lantern up high as a key and some fill on frame right. I was able to control the 600D from across the farm field with my @lumenradio Moonlite thanks to the 600D’s built in Timi Two chip. The shots in the apartment were done with an @arri S120 filling in some green, a 300X w/ 19* Leko, a few @asteraofficial Titan Tubes and a slew of @kflect reflectors making for some interesting tidbits. Mark took on the programming of the flashing lamps via Ableton, some midi notes, an @enttecofficial ODE and running that out to my @chauvet_pro DMX Edison dimmer pack. My FAVORITE part of this whole music video is in the bedroom scene where in we could only fill one of the second story windows properly with the 600D, so @markklassen and I devised the “Klaton” which involved propping open the windows, wrapping them with a bounce (think cove lighting meets book light) and putting 4x Titan Tubes facing out into it and being returned through the shears. It’s become a life saving maneuver now on our other shoots. To cap off this awesome two day shoot, instead of driving home from the farm (~2hrs away) at the end of the day, the family who owns the place put me up in a trailer in the middle of the field to crash in complete solitude under the stars.
