It’s one of my favourite songs off the EP that I wrote, and I love how the band made it sound in this church. Thank you to the talented musicians @marlawalters @clairedavismusic @teegz84 @scott.mccannell @bennymacsax @chinodevilla_drums for playing and singing on this SO beautifully. And thank you to @markklassen @hopelittle @dinattalla @tomhanleymusic @ewenlewis @saintclarens for filming and recording this performance. ASLEEP is a song that’s quite close to my heart. It’s about fighting through the rough patches in a relationship. When you get to know every little mundane detail of each other’s lives, it can be hard to remain interested in the other person the same way you were when you fell in love, and the relationship can become “sleepy”. When things go unsaid, resentments can grow, and eventually you find yourself being next to someone that you feel far away from. Keeping that spark alive takes work and constant trying and readjusting as dynamics between two people shift. When I was younger I thought love meant this fiery, passionate feeling all the time, but now I’ve come to know love as a steady burn. One that takes two people to continuously build and stoke.

I think back to my teenage self trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life but was scared to death of making the wrong choice. Pursuing music felt like a bit of pipedream, let alone writing and singing my own songs. I’ve come a long way since then, and this EP feels like a celebration of that journey. 💕✨Tom Appreciation Post ✨💕 I can’t talk about this song and video without an honorable mention of my sweet Tom. When I say that he was a big part of this project, I mean simply it could not have happened without him. On shooting day, he was everywhere. He ran around putting out literal fires with buckets of water (which he refilled, carried, and delivered from across a gigantic field), he singlehandedly cooked meals for 12 people because restaurants were unexpectedly closed, he sprinted from location to location to set up and tear down, gave me pep talks, gave the crew pep talks, took photos, hauled gear, drove multiple times back and forth from TO to PEC. He was a helping hand and cheerleader to everyone who needed one, and I think the entire team would agree that he was by far the MVP. Not to mention he helped me write and produce this entire record!!! When I count my blessings, I realize that he is the single greatest blessing that has ever happened to me.
