"Nirjhara resort, hidden away in the rice terraces north of Tanah Lot on Bali’s south-west coast, has been on our radar for months. Now it’s unveiled its “sister” proposition Vela – a six-cabin, handcrafted phinisi sailing boat that launches next month with a diving-and-disporting itinerary through the Komodo Archipelago," writes @mariashollenbarger. "This has become one of the most plied bits of Indonesia, with private charters and even small cruise ships now in on the game; so creating an experience that still feels private to some degree is the challenge. Vela’s journeys, which can also take in Sebayur – just outside the actual national park – look promising. So does Vela itself, with its Hermès and Dedar Milano fabrics, foredeck bar and spa terrace, with products from The Retreat, Nirjhara’s own wellness brand". Schiaparelli has always had a place in fashion history, thanks to the surreal inventions of its founder, Elsa, but it wasn’t necessarily contemporary until Daniel Roseberry took over as artistic director in 2019. Now, after dressing Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Bella Hadid in career-defining outfits, the Texan-born designer has brought the label to a whole new audience. As he prepares to stage his latest couture show at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris just days before an exhibition dedicated to Elsa opens there, Roseberry talks about “psycho chic”, the necessity of creating viral moments and why he still refuses to read his predecessor’s biography. “I love that my connection with her feels more creative and more intuitive,” he tells Louis Wise. To 5 rue de Marignan, Paris, where the Alaïa boutique has opened a café tucked inside its hidden courtyard. Azzedine Alaïa was a famously enthusiastic dinner party host who enjoyed gathering friends, colleagues and artists around his kitchen table. "I like to be surrounded," he once said. "Even now, every day it's the same thing, we all eat together. Everything is mixed: people from the workshop, famous personalities, young people, old people ... it comes from my childhood and my education. I was raised by my grandmother in Tunisia, and her house was always open. The whole family arrived for lunch and there were always around twenty of us at the table. As soon as I moved to Paris, I reproduced the exact same thing." Café Alaïa will honour its namesake with a menu drawing on Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian cuisines - with dishes such as sardines, lemon, toast and butter, and rigatoni all’arrabbiata. "I’ve been visiting Milan and its annual Design Festival for countless years. Earlier this month, though, my return felt like a homecoming. The sun was shining, the city buzzing and on every corner were posters proclaiming: Design is Milano and Milano is Design," writes @jackiedaly_designeditor. "The next three days were a maelstrom of espresso-fuelled curtain drops and champagne cork pops. Trends — or anti-trends, as some of us called it – emerged. The new rule was to break the rules: at LA Double J, new Murano glass vases in jewel-like colours and clashing print tableware for the upcoming festive season were shown amongst flower power dresses on Via Sant’Andrea in a joyous assault on the senses. Clashy-mashy style also featured at Return to Arcadia, a collection for the fabric house Rubelli by the British designer and FT columnist Luke Edward Hall". Baby plus-one? Welcome to the child-friendly members’ clubs. Link in bio for family-friendly hangouts in the capital and beyond.
📷 Tucked away in a cobbled Notting Hill mews, the wellness-focused club pairs the joys of quality spa action with children’s playtime. The big attraction for kids is the enchanted forest-themed soft-play area with a climbable treehouse and ball pit, and other areas are set aside for arts and crafts, staffed by “play buddies”. @cloudtwelveclub

“I will start healing the day my city starts healing,” designer Rabih Kayrouz tells @gilleskhoury in this weekend's issue. Kayrouz was in his atelier in the Beirut neighbourhood of Gemmayze when last August's explosion tore through the city. "Within a split second, the business that Kayrouz had been growing over the past 20 years was devastated; he was also severely wounded," writes @gilleskhoury. "For someone like Kayrouz, who is so entrenched in this city, it’s clear that it will take much longer to start recovering from the trauma. But despite everything, the designer’s atelier has been rebuilt, and he has created temporary solutions for the Lebanese arm of his business."
