Schiaparelli has always had a place in fashion history, thanks to the surreal inventions of its founder, Elsa, but it wasn’t necessarily contemporary until Daniel Roseberry took over as artistic director in 2019. Now, after dressing Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Bella Hadid in career-defining outfits, the Texan-born designer has brought the label to a whole new audience. As he prepares to stage his latest couture show at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris just days before an exhibition dedicated to Elsa opens there, Roseberry talks about “psycho chic”, the necessity of creating viral moments and why he still refuses to read his predecessor’s biography. “I love that my connection with her feels more creative and more intuitive,” he tells Louis Wise.
