Video by Pete McBride @pedromcbride | The brevity of time and life quickly becomes evident when filming the funeral pyres on the banks of India's Ganges River in Varanasi, a pilgrimage center for Hindus. I obtained permission to film here with @mountainworld on assignment for National Geographic, and I was amazed by the humanity, beauty, and intensity woven through this tradition to take the final step in life. From our documentary film "Holy (un)Holy River," which focused on the contamination of this river. For more from India, follow @pedromcbride. #India#ganges#rivers#water#life#culture#time#petemcbride
Photos by Pete McBride @pedromcbride | Sunrise and sunset over the world’s holiest (to Hindus) and most contaminated river —the Ganges. The first photo was taken in the foothills and the second is downstream along this 1,560-mile (2,510 km) waterway, which I followed source to sea for a @natgeo film project.
