Mitski - Laurel Hell
This is my first time listening to Mitski and I have to say I'm pretty impressed.
I mean in terms of content and lyrics, it is quite a heavy album dealing with mainly themes of love and heartbreak but honestly I found it quite hard to focus on the lyrics because there was so much going on in terms of the actual sound.
A lot of tracks on the project have a slow build up where Mitiski dives into those themes followed by a quite intense, euphoric beat transition which I found to be quite satisfying to listen to.
While her singing on the album wasn't bad per say, I'd have liked her vocals to pop out a little bit more. Quite a few tracks I'd say were maybe overproduced and drowned her vocals out a little or maybe she was just a little too quiet in the mix.
So while this album wasn't perfect, it has its fair share of highlights which I still go back to.
Favourite tracks:
Stay Soft (Favourite track)
Valentine, Texas
Working for the Knife
Love Me More
Should've been Me
That's Our Lamp
Worst Tracks:

It’s finally here, the day I’m finishing with Mitski’s discography (cause I already did Laurel Hell). I must admit that, after this album, Mitski has turned into one of my favorite artists right now. Let’s begin, I’m not gonna hold it any longer🤍🤍🤍🤠🤠🤠
Idk what happened to me. At first I was like “I like her music but her voice doesn’t click for me”; and it’s true. But this album changed everything. Since the first track to the last one, for me this piece of work doesn’t have any skips. Also, I don’t remember if I’ve said this before about her, but she really knows how to structure an album: her intros to the albums and her outros are always mind blowing, SHE IS A GENIUS DAMNN IT.
Once again, she didn’t miss in the lyric part. Brutally honest with a lot of feelings, which I love.
Sometimes I also struggle in that part because my little brain can’t catch up with her brilliant mind, but I try. With this I’m also saying that the way she writes all her songs is another reason why I love her.
I love the instrumentals and the production, I love the cover, I F*CKING LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS ALBUM.
I don’t really have much to say, because when you make THIS, words just can’t describe it.
Definitely one of my favorite albums ever.
🤍
Top 5 because I’m a cry baby and I can’t choose only 3:
1. Geyser
2. A Pearl
3. Lonesome Love
4. Pink in the Night
5. Washing Machine Heart

Mitski - “Laurel Hell”
The Japanese-American singer-songwriter releases her 6th album. With every release, Mitski Miyawaki’s (simply known as Mitski) fan base grew. The theatrical art pop of her earlier work and the later indie rock approach came together on the musician’s biggest album yet: "Be The Cowboy". With "Laurel Hell", Mitski dives into the world of 80’s-inspired synth pop. It results in a very keyboard-driven album. Tracks like "The Only Heartbreaker" and "Love Me More" contain that bright and choppy 80’s sound. The lyrics, on the other hand, have a darker theme on this record. Mitski addresses her artistic struggles, isolation and a failed relationship. It’s all brought in quite compelling metaphors. However, the album just doesn’t match the quality of previous records. Despite the 3 strong tracks that "Laurel Hell" starts off with, other songs feel a bit underwhelming. It lacks the memorable hooks and distinctive melodies we normally get from a Mitski project. Especially, the slow-paced "Everyone" and earlier mentioned “Love Me More" are kinda uninspired. Still, this isn’t a particularly bad album. There’s always enough sincerity in Mitski’s songwriting to makes her work worth a listen.
