Mitski - Laurel Hell
This is my first time listening to Mitski and I have to say I'm pretty impressed.
I mean in terms of content and lyrics, it is quite a heavy album dealing with mainly themes of love and heartbreak but honestly I found it quite hard to focus on the lyrics because there was so much going on in terms of the actual sound.
A lot of tracks on the project have a slow build up where Mitiski dives into those themes followed by a quite intense, euphoric beat transition which I found to be quite satisfying to listen to.
While her singing on the album wasn't bad per say, I'd have liked her vocals to pop out a little bit more. Quite a few tracks I'd say were maybe overproduced and drowned her vocals out a little or maybe she was just a little too quiet in the mix.
So while this album wasn't perfect, it has its fair share of highlights which I still go back to.
