As we move into the era of indigenous futurism, it is more important than ever for indigenous people to be represented in all aspects of society. Too often, our narrative has been controlled by others, resulting in a distorted view of who we are and what we are capable of. It is essential that future generations see themselves reflected positively in film, tv, fashion, and beauty; to know that there is no correct way to be beautiful, or no certain way to look indigenous. We are all unique, and our stories deserve to be told.

By connecting to the land, and to her community, Nikki speaks about healing from the trauma caused by colonization. One of the ways she does this is through giving love and support to other Indigenous women in her life — creating a space for them to heal as well. Nikki's personal story of trauma and healing is one that many native women can relate to. She faced the horrors of colonial prejudice by government-sanctioned violence (to this day, many indigenous women fall victim to) — but she also found a way to reclaim her power and her agency through art, activism, love, and her voice.

Worrying about your tasks and responsibilities can dramatically impact your productivity and efficiency. @linsay.kendall talks about metacognition is the process of coming back to your thoughts — which means that you're evaluating your thoughts as you're having them. Metacognition can help you put things in perspective. It can also help you deal with difficult situations, plan effectively, ultimately be more productive and show up for yourself.

We are so excited to share our first round of interviews with all of you! It's been two years since we filmed these amazing stories from inspiring women, and we know that their messages are still relevant today. Matriarch Movement is a platform created to ignite change through storytelling. We believe that sharing these stories can help to empower others and create a more just and equitable world. Over the next few weeks, we'll be posting reels of each woman we interviewed, along with her definition of the term "matriarch." We hope that you'll enjoy getting to know these incredible women and that their stories will inspire you to create change in your own life.
Happy Indigenous (and Pride) Month from our team to yours. ✨
