By connecting to the land, and to her community, Nikki speaks about healing from the trauma caused by colonization. One of the ways she does this is through giving love and support to other Indigenous women in her life — creating a space for them to heal as well. Nikki's personal story of trauma and healing is one that many native women can relate to. She faced the horrors of colonial prejudice by government-sanctioned violence (to this day, many indigenous women fall victim to) — but she also found a way to reclaim her power and her agency through art, activism, love, and her voice.
