Boyz hanging out by the shores of the Shatt al Arab. The once-vibrant waters of Basra (also once called the Venice of the Middle East )are now undrinkable and fetid. The Shatt-al-Arab river that runs through it, is now so polluted it threatens the lives of the more than 4 million inhabitants of Iraq‘s second city. The level of salt in the river's water, which is measured with graduated cylinders, is 250 times too high for the water to be drinkable. A hundred times higher than in the 1980s.
