BIG NEWS! This month, the Mendocino Land Trust completed its LARGEST conservation easement to date! 5,620 acres in the Eel River watershed, including the land around Lake Pillsbury, will now be forever protected from further development and habitat degradation. MLT is responsible for ensuring the perpetual protection of this rich wildlife area that is home to a great diversity of species – including large herds of tule elk. Annual monitoring of the conservation easement by MLT staff will make certain that present and future landowners honor the commitments made to protect this important property. With the addition of these lands, the total acreage MLT has helped protect since 1976 is nearly 25,000 acres. That’s a whole lot of land!

For the transformation of this sprawling apartment in Hyderabad, architect Chirag Swain, Founder, Chirag Design Studio (@chiragdesignstudio), focused on creating pockets of warmth where art is always the focus. He says, “This 2,850sqft apartment in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad was visualised as a home that evokes feelings of walking through an art repository. We wanted to craft a space where people could appreciate the beauty of art and how it can be integrated into every corner of a house.” Chirag masters an amalgamation of colours, textures, materials, and finishes in creating a sense of harmony.
Talking about the significance of art in this refurbishing project, Chirag Swain says, “Art and the use of local craftsmanship and artisanal designs create dynamic areas throughout the house. Whether it’s the customised leather wall cladding with its intricately-hand tooled engravings or the handpainted “patachitra” artwork that’s on the east wall of the formal living, there is colour and drama.

In Indonesia's Lombok, where tourism flourished before the COVID-19 pandemic, residents were forced to look for alternate livelihoods. Since the sea was their first love, they took it upon themselves to restore the damaged coral reefs in the sea with their own money. The villagers used steel poles and concrete blocks from earthquake ruins, and leftover structures from previous restoration projects to build reef gardens.

Last day of shooting, and it really takes a village. I am exhausted but I'm so grateful to have invested in this work. Thank you so much to everyone involved. 🙏🏻 I can't wait till this series comes out, but to be honest, it took a lot out of me. Now, it's time for me to refill my cup. I'm moving slowly today, and playing catch up. I'm going to the beach next week to soak up the sun and listen to the waves. I'm going to have early nights and get some massages and take care of myself. If you have been feeling exhausted or burnt out, this is your invitation to do the same. No one will give you permission to refill your cup. That is YOUR job. Take it seriously. Self care is important work. Sending love. 💜
