Where we go, we go together.
Juneteenth commemorates the day 157 years ago that enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas finally received news that they were free from bondage—two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Throughout the region, celebrations ensued amongst the freed peoples as word of emancipation spread.
Juneteenth also is a celebration of progress and the enduring spirit and resilience of Black Americans who—generation after generation—have pushed our nation to make real the enduring promise and premise of our nation: that we all are created equal.
