His fascination with languages has brought him to a rural aboriginal village near Hualien as well as a hillside city near the Himalayas. NUS Presidential Young Professor Michael Yoshitaka Erlewine from @fassnus studies how human language conveys complex meanings, with an emphasis on the grammars of understudied languages such Atayal, Tibetan and Batak. He hopes to build a community of dedicated scholars to further this important area of research. #NUSResearch#NUSImpact

In Indian Ayurvedic medicine, black cardamom has been used in formulations to treat lung conditions. Delving into the scientific basis behind this practice, NUS researchers from @NUS.FOS, @NUSMedicine and @NUS.CDE.SG found evidence that black cardamom is cytotoxic to lung cancer cells. The findings could lead to the discovery of safe and new bioactives in black cardamom that could prevent or treat lung cancer. #NUSResearch#NUSImpact
