UN World Food Program has warned that the world is facing a global emergency of unprecedented magnitude, as around 345 million people marching toward starvation. It is incredibly troubling that 50 million of those people in 45 countries are suffering from very acute malnutrition.

🇷🇺🇹🇷#Russian Foreign Minister Sergei #Lavrov is in #Turkey for a two-day visit for talks on unblocking #grain exports from #Ukraine🇺🇦, which have been stalled by Moscow's offensive amid a UN warning of a worldwide food crisis due to the war.
In a joint press conference on Wednesday, Lavrov said the onus of restoring grain shipments in the Black Sea was on Ukraine and that Moscow needed to take no action since it had already made the necessary commitments and was "ready to guarantee the safe passage of vessels leaving Ukrainian ports and heading for [Turkish] waters."
Lavrov's Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu said that a UN plan to ease the global food crisis by restarting Ukrainian grain exports along a sea corridor was "reasonable", and requires more talks between Russia and Ukraine.

While $40B appears a large sum but a large sum of $18.9 billion will be allocated to State Department, USAID and related foreign assistance programs, and nearly $3.7 billion, would go towards food aid for countries facing supply shortages and price spikes due to the war. ONLY a small sum of fresh $6 billion will be direct aid to Ukraine's military and security forces and $3.9 billion to support the U.S. troop deployment in the region. Let’s not forget Ukraine had an economic contraction of almost half, Russia blockades agro and other exports of Ukraine launching a “global food terrorism”, and it attacks civilian vessels, transportation and infrastructure. This relatively small aid to Ukraine will not be sufficient as the war is not over even if Ukraine had few wins in the battle with Russian forces of war criminals. Europe, India, China, Brazil and others keep funding Russian war machine by importing energy, metals, chemicals and other goods and these trading countries give billions of dollars DAILY instead of putting those into escrow accounts until Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine. Even being at the frontline, Europe’s military and economic support to Ukraine has been fairly meager and it still continues to trade with Russia. Many of the military aids have been “old and outdated equipments”, of low-range and of low capabilities. Wonder if these can really change the course of the war quickly. War of attrition will cost massively for Ukraine especially because the war is being fought primarily in Ukraine’s territories and waters. Unless its capabilities are enhanced, these small aids are going to show results very slow and a longer war will likely trigger global hungers and instability unless Russia is defeated quickly. My two cents

📣 COST OF EATING CRISIS 📣
.
Last week food campaigner & chef @jack_monroe 's tweets about the rising cost of budget food staples caused a media storm - and rightly so! 💯
.
The rising cost of food - and other living essentials - fuel, energy (50% plus rise!), accommodation, NI contributions - is frankly terrifying. ⛔
.
With so many households across the UK already relying on food support services, the impact of these price hikes on just managing households will be cataclysmic.
.
If you shop in a supermarket and buy mainly budget items, your weekly shopping bill spend that could previously feed your household for a week, will now feed you for half a week. If you're lucky. This will bring more hunger, more suffering, more ill health & more inequality.
.
The fact that the same levels of inflation are not being applied to more luxury food items says it all. We really aren't, and never have been in it together.
.
How have rising food prices affected you? What do you think should be done about this? We want to hear from you. 📣
.
PS- Jack Monroe you legend! It's not easy putting yourself out there on social media. We see and appreciate you!
