some restaurants tend to have rules where they “have” to take your wheelchair away if you’re sitting at a booth for fire hazard reasons. But isn’t it a fire hazard to prevent me from having a way out of the building independently? I know damn well if something horrible happened inside a restaurant, NOBODY is gonna worry about me to bring my chair back from whenever they’re stashed it. It would waste my time to ask someone to bring it back, even if they were willing. It’s kinda like “well I don’t want us ableds to die in a fire by tripping over your chair, so I’m gonna make it easier for you to die in a fire instead by removing it entirely.” How does that solve anything?
They will allow me to sit in my own chair (which is always preferable) at a table, but not a booth! Some restaurants only have booths and super high tables (can’t reach those) so I don’t have a choice. Or, the restaurant could be very busy and only booths are available, again, I would kinda need to use a booth.
I just feel like this “rule” is bullshit…. like i don’t even think it exists? but even if it does, why? I’m sure we could figure something better out than taking someone’s independence away, especially in the context of possible emergencies?
Has this ever happened to you too? What did you do, allow it, or refuse? How do you even refuse something like that when they are insisting?

Happy Father’s Day bitches; welcome to inclusive parenting 101 (from an actual disabled person myself).
Over the last few days, I had very opposite experiences regarding parenting in the context of disability.
One day, a parent angrily told their young child to look away from me, like it wasn’t allowed.
Then, another young child asked their parent why I was like this (or something like that) and his Dad bent down and explained to him that I might just need my wheelchair to get around like them; I just needed a little bit of help. I didn’t feel like a secret or nasty, and I hope the child felt the same way!
Adults’ feelings about disability or ignorance can definitely be spread onto the child through parenting or observation, so it’s important to educate yourself to educate your children properly too!
Staring is inappropriate (which also means further explanation and exposure to disability is required to further normalize it), but purposely avoiding looking at me should not be instructed by parents either. Aka treat me like anyone else in this specific circumstance. Don’t stare disgustingly, without any conversation, but it’s OKAY to look at me as you would look at anyone else walking.
What do you guys think, did I miss something? How would you want to be treated?

this is a very common question!! ⬇️
when i first started out, i didn’t censor the username, but I didn’t want anyone receiving hateful messages because of it (leave it to me to dissect them) and people would complain about how it might not be my right to use it in my own content. I don’t think it’s true that it’s “illegal,” but still, I want to make sure that my content doesn’t ever get deleted or penalized for a mishap like that.
i also do it because a lot of people criticized me for just chasing clout or placing myself above them (the commenter). But if I censor the username, I think it’s more clear that I’m not discussing their comment/belief just because of my “ego.” It’s such a stupid argument to try to make me the villain (yes I’m in my disabled villain era but not like this?!) to take the attention away from the real problem, which is the comment itself.
Also, sometimes people say that the commenter is just a troll looking for attention. This could be true, (although whatever they’re spewing is probably at least partially true within themselves anyway) so they don’t actually get any extra attention if I remove their username. they likely will never see my post about their comment, and the rest of everyone else will not even know who they are!
I’ve accidentally posted a couple comments before covering the username, but it was an accident!
Yes, some of these people are disgusting little humans, but it’s more fair to still cover the username! I’m not exactly protecting them, I’m usually going ALL in on their comment, but I also want to protect myself and my content!
Of course I want to be petty and expose them for being an asshole, believe me I wanna be evil like that, but I don’t think I will probably change on this in the future! What would you do? Cover or leave uncovered??

like my shirt? 😏 it goes quite well with my disabled villain phase, and this is the most on-brand thing I own. If this shirt doesn’t scream ‘me,’ idk what does 😭
it goes well with my scary eyeliner too. stairs should be frightened. they should be intimidated. sleep with one eye open, intimidated.
thank you @cripriot for gifting me this!! 🥰
(not an ad or obligated to post about though!)
Hoping that everyone is having a good day 🙏 and, by that, I mean that I hope everyone is planning an am🅱️ush on their not-so-friendly neighborhood staircases ❤️

Slide 3: a picture of Tara looking straight at the camera, without a smile, with her closet in the background.

i can do everything BUT stairs, stocking high shelves, working in an inaccessible kitchen with counters too high and no island cut outs, work in the medical field because no one trusts me to be able to save anyone, and the list goes on. i can do anything 🥺, but everyone wants to tell me that businesses shouldn’t be ✨burdened✨by making their establishment accessible to me. therefore can’t work there either.
and let’s not get into the transportation issues for a lot of wheelchair users (especially power chair users) that prevents consistent access to work. A lot of us need vehicles with a ramp or lift, which are literally as expensive (or more, usually) as a Tesla for no reason.
I understand people just want to be positive by saying “you can do anything!!” but that’s actually false/toxic positivity. It doesn’t solve the problems that are actually there because they have just been ignored by this statement.
Idk, I just find it ironic how many contradictions there are in society… you can “do anything” but I’m not putting a ramp out at my business. and i don’t trust you to be an efficient and safe worker.
Yes, there are jobs out there that seem to be accessible to wheelchair users like paperwork jobs sitting in front of a computer all day, but there are wayyyyy more jobs out there that would not currently be feasible for wheelchair users at all. For 1 job that is good for us, there are hundreds that are not. there are still issues out there.
but this particular post isn’t ALL about lack of career opportunities and barriers to work as wheelchair users, it’s more about the weird ass contradictions we have going on.
what are some other contractions?? Lord knows there are more than this one!

i would never condone running over people’s toes with a wheelchair 😉😉😉 and i REPEAT, I have NEVER run over someone’s toes just because they purposely cut right in front of me because they thought i was gonna be slow 😇😇 i did NOT run into the back of their ankles multiple different times 🤍🤍🤍 that would be a STEREOTYPICAL ACTION that is NOT accurate!!!!!!!!! 😏
does this count as violence in the first place tho?? 🤷🏻♀️ i don’t think so 🤭🤭
someone once asked if i had ever done this a while ago, and the answer was no. but it’s not “no” anymore 😭 some people really piss me off, and it’s too easy when the streets are crowded and you’re RIGHT in front of me. tbh is that kinda wrong? maybe…. but they were wrong first with their lil micro aggressions 🫢 all i am doing is turning their micro aggression into MY aggression. no one is going to be seriously hurt, it’s all just a bit of fun and games 😇
donut judge me, because you would likely do the same thing after a while… i withstood about 1.5 years as a sweet little cripple while strangers chipped away and now I’m not afraid to “accidentally” run into the back of your ankles, shall you ASK for it. 🙂
