New Arrivals: Flip Schulke's "Ali Underwater" ๐ฅโ
โ
One of the most #iconic images in #sports history is, amusingly, taken inside of a #pool in #SouthFlorida. In 1961, #FlipSchulke captured an up-and-coming black #boxer submerged in one of the few desegregated pools in #America at a hotel in Overtown, a historically black neighborhood in downtown #Miami. Holding an iconic fighting stance underwater in a swimming pool, wearing his legendary #Everlast#boxing trunks, then upcoming boxer #CassiusClay became immortalized. #Jabbing underwater, to then position himself with the ultimate boxer's pose, he helped create an image that influenced the rest of his career and, fundamentally, the world of sports.โ
โ
Yet, the idea for the striking picture wasn't the #photographer's alone. #CassiusMarcellusClay, who later changed his name to #MuhammadAli in honor of his faith, had met the photographer Schulke the day prior. #SportsIllustrated sent Flip Schulke to capture the young boxer who had, the year prior, taken Gold at the 1960 #Olympic games.โ
โ
While meeting with the photographer, Ali recognized Schulke's affinity for shooting #underwater. The photographer recalled an article about water skiers he had recently published. Then, a day later, when meeting for the shoot, Ali was already in the pool. Perhaps, considering a cinematic moment, the nineteen-year-old boxer, charismatic and media-savvy since his earliest years, trained inside the water, telling the photographer of his "usual" underwater shadow boxing routine.[..]โ

Week 3: 1,342 total miles. This week I stopped in some cool cities. I stopped in Columbus and was able to visit the massive Ohio State campus. From there made it to Cincinnati where I caught an @fccincinnati game with my awesome host @deatrix . The next day I left, and although I saw Kentucky from the other side of the river I did not enter, but rather continued until I crossed into Indiana (7th state). I eventually made my way to another big college town- Bloomington before continuing to Terra Haute where I stealth camped in the Indiana State University football stadium. Yesterday I crossed into Illinois (8th state). So far Illinois has been very challenging - both mentally and physically- as I have been biking in a straight line directly against the wind. The only positive of the state so far was stumbling upon the worldโs largest rocking chair in Casey, IL. Actually, I lied- weed is legal in IL so I was able to restock last night at a dispensary- huge for morale ๐๐๐บ. Today is supposed to be a major thunderstorm- I will pack up my camp now and try to make it to Greenville, IL where I have a host waiting for me. The next big city will be St Louis. Thanks to everyone following! One love!

Yes, what you see are machined parts.
Society wants us to believe what these can turn into is dangerous and evil.
Dangerous, is right; but not evil.
Evil stems from the intent of using it in a manner to harm the innocent.
I was raised to believe that guns were bad and to avoid them; That only cops and the military should have access to them... But how does this mindset apply to criminals who break the law to acquire them?
How are we supposed to be protected from criminals who have guns?
Sure, we could depend on the police to protect us in times of trouble--and as much as I believe that police officers can help us, depending on others to meet our needs couldn't be further from the truth.
What do you do when something bad happens; Do you sit, wait and pray for help to arrive? How long does it take? 2 mins... 10 mins... 25mins?
As the world began to change, I didn't want to be a statistic.
I became a firearm owner.
I asked questions, I took courses, I surround myself with experienced MIL/LE individuals who train to help those in need. They are dangerous individuals who do dangerous things.
But that is why you respect the danger-- you learn to harness it.
It is ONLY when there is no other option left that it can be unleashed.

John Bortolo
๐๐ผ Please pray for John Bortolo's family ๐๐ผ
When I heard the news, I couldn't help but feel a gut wrenching pain in the pit of my stomach; Especially because you just became a new father.
I didn't you very long @john_bartolo, but the interactions I had with you were heartfelt and real. I distinctly remember telling you that your level of enthusiasm and energy were infectious. I couldn't help but feel your kindness and eagerness to bring joy to those around you. Many would agree that you was one of the greatest to call a friend. You simply cared for others like no one else. You could walk into a room and your presence would lighten it up.
May your legacy stand forever and your life ALWAYS be remembered.
You're going to be missed by everyone. Rest easy King. โ๐ผ ๐
