On the occasion of June being “Pride” month, I’m going to (or try my best to) post some bit of #karlheinzweinberger oeuvre each day this month. #happypride Day 29: “Aus Meiner Werkstat”. My favorite of Weinberger’s handmade photo portfolios: “In My Studio” gathers a seemingly random set of portraits, into an intimate collection of KHW’s photographic musings on the beauty of the male form all around him. This portfolio is probably from around the late 1950’s and is attributed to Weinberger’s, artistic pseudonym at that time, “Jim”; the painted cover art was by his friend “Rico”. Part of my personal fascination with #karlheinzweinberger ‘s art are the stories behind images like these that remain untold.
Karlheinz Weinberger was obsessed with capturing the beauty of the male form. His homosexuality informed and fed his aesthetic and artistic pursuits his entire life.
Born in 1921, #KHW lived and worked in #Zurich his whole life. He was an unapologetically gay man who lived until 2006. As an adult, he worked full time at a Siemens warehouse, but his life really began after work when he took photographs. #karlheinzweinbergerstiftung#portraits#vintagephoto#men#swiss#photography#beefcake#derkreis#photography#swissgenius#vintagephotography
