‼️ As of Monday (yesterday) City of Miami Mayor @FrancisSuarez and Commissioner @JoeCarollonow announced that the pilot program to house 50-100 chronically houseless individuals on Virginia Key has been placed on a hold for 6 months. This isn’t over. This ‘pause’ was done to control the public outcry against this proposed plan. This project has not been tabled. If you were not aware, in 6 months we will be losing a no vote. @KenRussellMiami will be stepping down as he is running for congress. (@KenRussellForFlorida) Keep an eye on our feed for further developments and updates. It’s not over. It’s just starting. Continue to sign and share the petition, it has over 15,000 signatures. Continue contacting your elected officials, let them know this is not a good plan for parks or for the homeless. Please come and support. They will be departing from the volunteer area at 11AM and riding free bird. This is a family friendly ride. Most recently, Commissioner Carollo - the one spearheading this project, went on TV and called the trails dangerous and made some very untrue and accusatory statements. @SouthFloridaPaddlers will be organizing a Group Paddle in front of the Virginia Key Outdoor Center. Come hear from local activists and join them on the water. They depart at around 10:30AM. Be there by 10. @SouthFloridaSlackliners will be setting up from 1PM to sun down. Come enjoy. There will be a drum circle and more! Commissioner Christine King said the land being proposed for this project has not been used in 10 years. Again this isn’t true. Come on out and support! Let’s show them they’re wrong.
