The Striped Marlin (Kajikia audax) is a highly migratory species that inhabits the Pacific Ocean. In Mexico, a unique aggregation exists, but unfortunately because of their size and beauty, they are targeted by sport fishing as valuable trophies. Marlins are also threatened by commercial fishing targeting tunas and sharks, where bycatch kills thousands every year.
I never get tired of saying that watching them hunt is probably the most thrilling feeling I’ve had with animals in the ocean. They are SO fast and their body perception in water is outstanding. Can’t wait for this next season!!!

Some weeks ago on expedition with @biganimals_expeditions we encountered this beautiful female whale shark. I sent the photo to scientist @deni.ramirez.macias who studies them and was super excited when she told me that the whale shark hasn’t been identified before so I got to name her. I named her Fibi after the little girl at @sv_sol_searcher who has a cheerful and brave spirit. Little is known about this adult females, and hopefully this ID contributes to knowing a little bit more about the species in the Sea of Cortez.
I don’t think this is a great picture, but it is meaningful to me. The spots behind the gills have a unique pattern in each individual, so this picture can be used to identify at an individual level. I’m happy to share with you the pic that helped identified Fibi. I hope we see her again some day! #whaleshark#tiburonballena#id#baja#seaofcortez#gulfofcalifornia#sharks#marinescience#citizenscience#marineconservation#marinebiology

Having dolphins swim towards you, play with you and look at you in the eye is an indescribable feeling of awe. Having experienced this, and knowing dolphins are sentient beings with complex relationships, it breaks my heart to watch them being slaughtered and the government responsible doing nothing about it (scroll to second picture).
But we CAN do something about it! We can add a ton o social pressure to the Faore Islands goverment so hopefully this kind of hunts stop happening.
Last September, 1428 White Sided Dolphins were killed in Faroe Islands. Once the pod was taken to shore, the dolphins were cut and then left suffocating into their painful and slow death. This hunt included pregnant females and claves. The Faroe Islands are known for their annual pilot whale hunt, a tradition called the Grindadráp. This happens every year!
Please sign the petition (link in bio) and ask the Faroese Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen to take a firm regulatory stance against the slaughter of dolphins in the Faroe Islands
and hopefully we can help end it! @onlyone@sealegacy@mitty@paulnicklen
So amazed by these gentle giants! We’ve been encountering this particular adult gray whale who seems to be very interactive and loves to scratch her head with the boat. I’ve named her blanquita due to a big white spot she has close to its dorsal ridge. Come meet the friendly whales of Baja ❤️ We run daily tours from La Paz #whalewatching#graywhale#whales#whalelove#wildlife#wildlifevideo
