A safe, healthy environment is a human right. Yet, polluted air affects 99% of the world's population, resulting in 7 million premature deaths every year.
The good news is that it is a preventable problem and each of us can do our part to tackle this global health emergency with simple #ClimateAction steps, such as planting trees or commuting without polluting.
"Together, we can reduce air pollution and keep people and the planet healthy and safe," said UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday's #WorldCleanAirDay.

17-year-old Mursal Fasihi from #Afghanistan has been unable to go back to school since the Taliban takeover in August 2021.
"It's not right that they're ordering us to hide our faces and stop going to school. I hope that young girls will not give up," says the young student.
Thanks to the support from the #UnitedNations Population Fund (UNFPA), Musral received training through a regional youth initiative on various issues such as early marriage and early pregnancy. Today, she is one of the initiative's 25 trainers who support young people in the country.
Amid challenging humanitarian conditions, UNFPA has increased its presence in Afghanistan and continues to deliver humanitarian assistance, including by providing health services, safe spaces and psychosocial support.

The former head of the UN Assistance Mission in #Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, meets with female Afghan colleagues in Kabul in August 2021, shortly after the Taliban takeover.
As @unamanews chief, she was responsible for ensuring the safety of #UnitedNations staff members across the country as the Taliban seized control of the country one year ago.
“I don't think anyone expected the chaos, the sadness, the carnage, the enormous shock of what happened,” she said in a deeply personal conversation with UN Global Communications chief @melissarfleming.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have severely curtailed women’s rights, leaving millions of women and girls excluded from work and school.
In the latest episode of our Awake At Night #podcast, Deborah reflects on the tragedy facing Afghan women and girls, the trauma of the Taliban takeover, and what it takes to lead in turbulent times.
You can hear her compelling story wherever you get your podcasts.
