Repost from our friends @firststepcommunities 💞 We are happy to be back at the Safe Ground camping area near W/X today offering showers, food, clothing, & compassion to our neighbors experiencing homelessness here in our beloved city 🚿✅♻️ #unityinthecommunity#sacramento#showup#showupsac
Show Up Sac serves all our unsheltered brothers and sisters, but as an organization co-founded by a Veteran, servicing our Vets who are living outdoors, like Steven who is pictured here, holds a special place in our hearts. This Saturday, November 13th, Show Up will be providing showers at the @willowclinic’s Homeless Veterans Outreach Fair at VFW Post 67 on Stockton Blvd from 9 am to 3 pm. Please feel welcome to stop by, support, or donate if you are able, and thank you to all of the brave men & women who have courageously served our country 🇺🇸 #homelessveterans#veteransday#sacramentoveterans#thisisyourbackyard 📷: @galefilterphotography
This Labor Day weekend, we are happy to share with you this series of beautiful images of our patrons and volunteers, shot by our dear friend and Show Up advocate and partner Gale at @galefilterphotography 📸 This series was inspired by the iconic World War II figure Rosie the Riveter, representing American feminism and women’s strength. We value and honor all laborers, especially the essential workers, healthcare professionals, and firefighters that are so critical in these turbulent times. As Gale often says, everybody counts, or no one counts. “Sooner or later we all discover that kindness is the only strength there is.” - Father Greg Boyle #showup#showupsac#mercypedalers#galefilterphotography#homelessness#homelessnessawareness#sacramentohomelessness#community#everyonecounts
Our fearless leader and head “shower guy” @marklytal was honored with an “Indomitable Spirit” award at the Sacramento Republic FC’s match honoring Veterans at Heart Health Park in Sacramento this evening ⚽️ Thank you, Mark, for showing up with the same grit and determination for our homeless neighbors that you did in your twenty years leading your troops in the Air Force. Your team of volunteers brings joy, purpose, and dignity to so many people each day. We appreciate you! 📸: @sacrepublicfc 🥅🗣🏆
Check it out!! Show Up is SO excited to let you know that we’ve been invited to serve Sacramento’s unhoused residents at the newly-opened designated camping site between W & X at 5th Street 🚿 Our first day was yesterday; 28 of our friends took showers, and more than 28 received meals, new clothes, and a sense of dignity right there under the freeway! This will be a regular weekly location for us on Fridays from 10-3 💞🌎💦

Joleen became a guest of Show Up in the very beginning of this pandemic. We saw her just about every day. She became part of the Show Up family. As we all know, there were good days and bad. Even if she came crying or having a bad day she said she always left feeling better. She knew we were there for everyone but we always made her feel like we were there specifically for her. Our program is designed for our guests to feel just that way. She was Instrumental in helping us become the program we are today. Joleen challenged us to find ways to help others on the street. She had friends who needed things and knew we were there to help. She trusted us and came to us when she or another person needed something and wasn't sure we would help them. Joleen knew if we couldn't do it, we would find a way to get it done. These pictures are of a card and a letter she wrote to me and my family because she truly appreciated the work we are doing for all of our unhoused guests. This means more to me than I can even express. There is a reason I have kept these.
Our goal as Show Up is to serve our unhoused brothers and sisters. To recognize them as people, humans, citizens of Sacramento and children of our Almighty Father. Show Up is a very small organization that provides showers, food, and clothes to our homeless, yes. However, we are so much more than that. We are believers in Christ and we know that no matter what you believe, we all know that every person out there on the street, in a tent on A street or on the river, like Jolene is Somebody's Someone. A mother, daughter, sister or wife of somebody who has to learn their Someone is no longer with us. For those Somebody's, I can tell you that Joleen is free of the pain and suffering she was facing daily on earth. She had good people who prayed with her sometimes several times a day. May she rest in peace and may we find a way to get through this homeless crisis as well as COVID pandemic soon so this type of tragedy does not continue and stops taking the lives of our brothers and sisters.
Remember, Jesus Christ was considered homeless. What do you think all those who judged him felt when they found out he is the son of God
Because of the particular challenges facing our local community in this coming week, Show Up has decided to provide consistent services to our unhoused neighbors in the River District. Starting today, 1/16, through at least next Saturday, 1/23, we will be OPEN every day for showers, clothing, food, and distanced fellowship and support at Pipeworks on 16th & A in the heart of the River District from 10 am to 6 pm (may close earlier based on need). We will have community partners covering our other locations this week so we can help as many people as possible!! We love you, Sacramento, and we want you all to stay safe and know you are loved 💞💯🇺🇸

The lovely faces of Show Up and Divine by Design. If you want to feel the love, respect, compassion and talk about the Lord, come see these wonderful ladies and take a hot shower, get some food and leave with some clean, warm clothes. Above it all, you will know you are acknowledged and loved. We at Show Up understand that you are Somebody's Someone. We are here to serve our homeless guests or anybody who wants to stop by. We don't have a gavel and we don't wear robes, and it's not our place to judge. Our program is a zero barrier program. Come as you are and know you are among those who truly care! 💞🚿🌎

In this weird and wild year, these three doors have opened more than 6,500 times to offer a bit of privacy, safety, and warmth to our Sacramento neighbors who are living outside. At the steps of this trailer, 25,000 meals have been served to hungry people in need. Thank you to all of our volunteers and community members who have made this possible with your donations of time, money, prayers, and heart. Show Up is a true living example that when we walk a steadfast path of faith, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus. We are wishing you all a happy and safe New Year 🙏🏼✨🚿

John is a regular at the showers. He, as we all do, has a story. Some days he shows up and is quiet. Other days he isn't quite so quiet. Yesterday he seemed kind of antsy, ready to get his shower on. Usually we give our guests about 10 minutes to shower. When we have about a 2 hour waiting list and a 300 gallon holding tank, you do the math. Anyway, John got his new underwear, socks, a clean towel and washcloth and his hygiene kit. He lit up and said you won’t even recognize me. So people are coming and going. We are listening and sharing and honestly, I forgot what time John went into the shower. It seemed like forever. I knocked on the door and asked if he was ok. He whipped open the door and said, "Do I look ok?!" I was speechless. "WOW!" was the only sound I could muster up. Then I was able to regroup and tell him how impressed I was. He looks like a million dollars. People keep asking me where he was going. Honestly, I don’t know and it doesn’t matter. This individual has been on the streets for a long time. He has good days and bad. He may even have some mental stress. I do not know because I am not a doctor nor a judge. I am just a guy with a dog and a trailer. The one thing I do know is this man, human, God’s child and my brother went in that shower in pieces and came out whole with dignity and pride. He wanted the world to see who he is and what he is here to do!!! You rise, John, and show these people you deserve respect. You deserve to be heard! You deserve a safe place to lay your head at night and you have the right to enjoy the same freedoms as any and everyone else in this free country! 🚿
