April showers bring May flowers 💐 This Oscar de la Renta dress designed by Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia is covered in flowers that are realistically rendered in silk and bead embroidery, conveying the sense of joy and renewal often associated with springtime. Throughout de la Renta's decades-long career, he was renowned for romantic eveningwear characterized by sculptural shapes and saturated colors. Kim and Garcia, who were appointed co-creative directors of the brand in 206, continue to capture that joie de vivre in their designs. See this on view in #MetInAmerica: Lexicon. // Dress, #OscardelaRenta (American, founded 1965), #LauraKim (American, born Korea, 1982), #FernandoGarcia (American, born 1986), fall/winter 2021–22; Courtesy Oscar de la Renta Archive.

NOW ON VIEW—"In America: An Anthology of Fashion" ✨
On view in the @metamericanwing period rooms, the second in our two-part #MetInAmerica exhibition reveals hidden narratives of American fashion through cinematic "freeze frames" produced in collaboration with notable film directors.
Each room—including an 1830s Shaker Retiring Room, a 20th-century living room designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, a 19th-century parlor from Virginia, and many more—tells a different story, from the personal to the political, the stylistic to the cultural, and the aesthetic to the ideological.
See the exhibition through September 5, 2022. Tap the link in bio to plan your visit.

To celebrate #EarthDay, “Meet ‘In America’” highlights Conner Ives, a London-based, American-born designer who places ethical practices at the center of his creative output.
“The 9–5 Working Girl” ensemble, a contemporary representation of the working girl, was the centerpiece of the “Consciousness” section of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” first rotation. Ives made the ensemble from a reconstituted military blanket and felted with a painting of a sun on the horizon. Head to our Instagram Stories to meet Conner and learn more about his design process and inspirations. // “The 9–5 Working Girl” ensemble, #ConnerIves (American, born New York, 1996), fall/winter 2021–22; Courtesy Conner Ives. #TheMet#CostumeInstitute#EarthMonth

Designers Sophie Andes-Gascon and Claire McKinney of SC103’s technique of interlocking strips of deadstock leather is one of their design signatures, inspiring the title of their 2019 collection, "Bonds." A hat and knee-high sandals complete this ensemble, covering the wearer from head to toe in soft chain mail. Appearing in the “Consciousness” gallery of #MetInAmerica, SC103 creates one-of-a-kind, handmade garments that are "meant to be touched, felt, held.” // Ensemble, SC103 (American, founded 2019), Sophie Andes-Gascon (Canadian, born 1993) and Claire McKinney (American, born 1993), fall/winter 2021−22; Courtesy SC103. #TheMet#CostumeInstitute#EarthMonth

“All of the rooms are connected by these curatorial threads, but they’re also connected through this cinematic lens. Every director has put their own imprimatur on each of them.” –Andrew Bolton
"In America: An Anthology of Fashion" pairs nine film directors with period rooms in @MetAmericanWing to create mise-en-scènes that explore the role of dress in shaping American identity and address the complex histories of the rooms. The pristine color and exaggerated 1950s-era silhouette of this Christopher John Rogers dress convey a sense of delight, exemplifying the expressive nature of his designs. Rogers drew the nostalgic shape and white palette from memories of formal dress in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was born and raised. He describes his design philosophy as creating both emotional and transformational fashions, which become tools for self-expression.
Hear about this dress on view in #MetInAmerica and more from Christopher himself! Join us for the upcoming Atelier with @thealinacho talk next Tuesday, April 19 @metmuseum.
