@americanidol Hawaii episodes airing tonight and tomorrow. Fun music played with a great group of friends and artist on Idol this year. Feel very lucky.

I had the privilege of music directing this year’s Gershwin Prize for Popular Song honoring Lionel Richie this past week. I’ll post more about this when it airs May 17th but for now want so say thank you to Lionel. The band and I wanted to do justice to Lionel’s songs but even more than that, honor Lionel himself for his generous spirit and incredible contribution to spreading love and happiness into all of our lives. 📸: Dirk Vanoucek

Can’t post the video here but you can find on YouTube if you’re curious to see… Anyway, Never Really Over on @nbcsnl the other night with @katyperry. The story here is Katy wanted to do something stripped down for the second song and was thinking of doing Never Really Over. Katy and I talked it over and I quickly made a version, sent to @calebjosiahnelson to demo a guitar part, sent to @missihalemusic to demo a vocal part and about 12 hours later we had this version of the song. Thankful to work with such talented and wonderful (and quick!) people and for @katyperry who is always open to reimagining her songs. Singing on live TV is nerve-wracking and Katy absolutely crushed this. Big thanks to the great audio team over at @nbcsnl and Katy’s amazing crew and management.
