For #WorldRainforestsDay, we're inspired by Jane's connection to forests and the urgent importance of protecting the vast tapestry of life on Earth.
“Fortunately, nature is amazingly resilient: places we have destroyed, given time and help, can once again support life, and endangered species can be given a second chance. And there is a growing number of people, especially young people, who are aware of these problems and are fighting for the survival of our only home, Planet Earth. We must all join that fight before it is too late.”
- Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder Jane Goodall Institute, UN Messenger of Peace

Fan-favorite Wounda and her son Hope are two of the most extraordinary chimpanzees at JGI's sanctuary! Wounda and Hope live on an island at JGI's Tchimpounga sanctuary in Republic of the Congo. This gives the chimpanzees a more natural habitat while remaining in a sanctuary context, which helps with their growth and development. Caregivers maintain close observations of each chimpanzee's behaviors so that they can match them in groups that best reflect their personalities. Wounda is a natural leader, and she's teaching little Hope her skills and insight! In fact, Wounda is the alpha female of her group, and she loves to spend time with her close friend Kefan who is the alpha male of their group.

Just two activists fighting for climate justice @itssaadamer@janegoodallinst ✨🍃🌏
For Dr. Goodall’s #BecomingJane exhibit at the @nhmla created in partnership between the Jane Goodall Institute and @natgeo@natgeomuseum, we invited climate justice activist Saad Amer to introduce and interview Dr. Goodall about the importance and power of youth in environmental movements, including Jane's program @rootsandshoots .
Saad has mobilized millions of young people to vote on issues like climate change and social justice, and works as a consultant to the @unitednations . In his speech, he explained how Dr. Goodall inspired much of his love for nature, and shared how her message of hope has motivated him to act locally to impact the world globally. We are the moment, and we are the movement. It's time to rise up and take action!
Location: Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County

#DidYouKnow that Dr. Goodall is not only one of the most impressive scientists, but an amazing photographer, too! In this photo, captured by Jane herself in 1993, Fanni and her son Fax of the 'F Family,' can be seen playing together. Playing is a vital source of development for chimpanzees. As they play, they learn key social and behavioral skills that are essential to their survival. Fanni's grandmother, the famous Flo, was the grand matriarch when Dr. Goodall first arrived at Gombe. Sadly, Flo's great grandson Fax passed away at an early age, and Fanni gave birth to five children later on.
Are you inspired by the research Dr. Goodall shared from Gombe, Tanzania? Did you know that research continues to this day through JGI's Gombe Stream Research Center - the longest running wild chimpanzee study in the world? Happy #WorldOceansDay! Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace shares a message for World Oceans Day 2022. 70% of planet Earth is covered in vast oceans that continue to suffer from unsustainable practices that pollute the waters and decrease biodiversity. Essential ecosystems and aquatic life are in danger, but there is still hope. As Dr. Goodall shared on World Environment Day this month, every individual makes an impact every day. We have the chance to make a difference, so let us care for our planet as it cares for us.
