Take a stroll around Britain’s great coastlines and, if you’re lucky, you might come across a sound mirror — a curved, concrete monolith that looks like something out of Doctor Who, but is, in fact, a relic of a near-100-year-old audio detection experiment.⁣ ⁣ With their concave domes pointing out towards the Channel, the sounds of enemy aircraft engines could be detected from several dozen miles away due to sound waves being bounced back towards a microphone. A new audio-visual installation combining footage of early 20th century Japan with music by Midori Takada has been announced for the @britishfilminstitute this month. Visuals will be presented across six screens, accompanied by contemporary field recordings captured by filmmaker @lightsurgeon , immersive sound design by audiovisual artist Tim Cowie, and a bespoke score composed by percussionist Midori Takada. We composed the score for @chase’s fun and informative launch film, directed by @adam_and_dave utilising animated guitar, grooving bass refrains and a bustling backbeat to augment the bright visuals with a sense of energy.

@Pushkinpods @thebrokenrecordpod podcast was created in 2017 in order to restart conversations between the audience and the artist — "for a new audience of music lovers, in a world without liner notes". ⁣ ⁣ The interview series, hosted by Justin Richmond, and featuring regular contributions from the likes of record producer Rick Rubin (whose credits include Adele’s ’21’, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘Californication’ and Johnny Cash’s ‘American Recordings’), is now drawing to the close of its fifth season — and it’s become something of a treasure trove for music fans.
