Day 113: 7289 miles (11,662 km)
The last 10 days have flown by and have included 4 border crossings. After leaving San Cristobal I started heading towards the Guatemala border. I was sad to leave Mexico behind- Mexico exceeded my expectations on so many levels- the people, food, culture and the epic diversity in landscapes- i will be back again one day- what an amazing country! In Guatemala I was introduced to steep pitches and volcanoes before making my way back down to the beach and it’s black volcanic sand. I will admit I barely scratched the surface in my visit to Guatemala and need to come back one day for the full experience. After 4 days I made it into El Salvador where they do not even stamp your passport to enter. My first night there I could not find a hotel as it got dark so started to ask around a small beach village when a lady opened up the ranch she took care of and gave me the keys. The next morning she even brought me a breakfast of fried bananas, tamales, and coffee. Strangers are kind. The next day I spent an an awesome night with French hosts in San Salvador before continuing towards Honduras. I spent approx 24 hours in Honduras before crossing into Nicaragua yesterday. This was my longest crossing so far (but still really not that bad, ~2.5 hours) and by the time I made it across, torrential downpour started. As I write this, I am just waking up in Nicaragua- I am excited to bike through the country and am hoping for more chill roads. It’s been a grind recently as I’ve been on mostly busy roads and highways - and with another pair of broken headphones I can barely hear myself think some days with the sound of trucks and colorful buses flying by me. Onwards!! I should be in Costa Rica sometime next week. LFG.
