Day 104: 6,581 miles (10,530 km)
I left Oaxaca on Monday with a lead out from @whileoutriding and his dog Huesos. He took some awesome pictures and ended up writing an article about my trip and bike on @bikepackingcom - check out the link in my bio if you haven’t already- (bonus puppy pictures! Thanks again Cass!). That night I camped out in Hierve del Agua and was excited to have the place to myself in the morning before other tourists arrived! Then I descended back towards sea level before starting to make my way into Chiapas- specifically towards San Cristobal which would take me back over 8,000ft elevation. The climb up to the city was one of my longest continuous climbs of the trip so far but I was motivated to make it in one day since I knew I would be spending some time resting and exploring the city. And that is exactly what I have been doing the last two days! The city has an amazing vibe with colorful cobbled streets, tons of churches of different sizes and colors, and a unique culture associated with the indigenous population in the region. I was also able to run some errands - after dropping my AirPods in water earlier this week, I was able to find iPhone headphones here, a new mini speaker I’ll be using for the upcoming Guatemalan mountains, get a massage, do laundry (first time since Mexico City) and service my bike. I feel well rested and motivated to hit the road again tomorrow towards Guatemala 🇬🇹! One love!!
