🥰 A caring cop helped a retired bobby to relive his past and provide a boost in his battle against poor health.
👮 PC Dean Wainwright became aware of a former traffic officer who is in the same care home as his father and suffering with dementia.
☺️ Thoughtful Dean wanted to try and raise Geoff Brown's spirits and rekindle happy memories of his time in policing.
🔷 So alongside staff at The Knowles care home, Coventry, he set about helping to arrange a special 'blue light breakfast' event.
🚓 This included organising a visit from former colleagues, a chance to ride in an old-style police car again and see one of the current motorbikes used by our traffic cops.
🗣 Dean - who is now part of our drone team - helped to make it happen on a recent day off. He said: "It was great to see Geoff enjoying himself and being able to recall his time in policing.
"The police family never forgets one of its own and Geoff spent many years as part of our traffic team in the 70s and 80s.
"The care home came up with the idea of a 'blue light breakfast' and I tried to create a traffic police theme as much as possible.
"I managed to track down some of his former colleagues, who kindly came along, and was able to source a vintage car. It was only a few weeks beforehand I found out Geoff's son had also been a traffic officer and I'd worked alongside him for a while.
"We also had some of the current Coventry neighbourhood team pop in, and all the other care home residents seemed to enjoy the occasion. Just seeing Geoff smiling made it all worthwhile." 😍
