Thunderbird
The weather wasn't very good
Recently in a nearby mountain
Come to think of it, I encountered a thunderbird during a superstorm.
The movement at that time was extremely agile,
For example, it overtook me like an duck at full speed and ran away
It wasn't a photo, but it made me laugh
Duck is a good guy who makes me laugh

Week 5 recap! Last week started out strong with a hike through a nearby canyon (1) to check out some #dinosaur#fossils reported by a local hiker. We not only found the fossils, but #petroglyphs made by Native Americans up to 1,000 years ago! Check out the awesome #thunderbird petroglyph (2)!
At this point in the season, our primary focus is getting exposed fossils out of the ground and protected in field jackets or foil packs. Jackets for larger bones are made of burlap strips dipped in plaster that harden to form a tough outer shell that will protect the fossil inside. We had a long day of jacketing (3) on Thursday, and at the end of the day (4) we had made a total of 9 jackets!
For smaller bones or ones in tricky positions, instead of using plaster and burlap, we can carefully pop them out of the surrounding rock (5) and wrap them in aluminum foil (6), sort of like wrapping up a burrito, but with a lot more layers of foil and duct tape (7)! Longer bones, or more delicate bones like part of a rib (8) get additional support from a cardboard "splint" (9) before getting wrapped in foil and secured with lots of duct tape (10). Once they've been tightly wrapped and secured, they're ready to be carefully taken out of the field! Stay tuned for more details about how a jacket is made and applied to a fossil!
