My first album recorded at The Record Plant in NYC. It was crazy. We were in a big studio next you where The Blues Brothers were making their album and Paul Shaffer would come in and wound up playing on it as well as Anton Fig, The Uptown Horns. Ellie Greenwich sang with me on a track. A full orchestra was brought in conducted by Torrie Zito, who did the same for John Lennon's Imagine album. Mr.Zito gifted me hand-written scores for the tracks.
John Belushi just stared at us and as we left on the final day he said " gain some weight." We lived at The Gramercy Park Hotel.
It went from three piece punk pop band to an extravaganza. The response from Virgin was OMG 😲 plus some other comments. Both of my Virgin albums were pretty epic sonically.
We overspent, overproduced it but oh well 🤷
It was the 80s. A bit out of control.
It's a classic, I'm proud of having written, played etc this.
😎
The album cover is pretty iconic. It was taken by Lynn Goldsmith. We spent a long day together in her studio and around NYC.
The photo was actually chosen by Andy Summers from the band The Police who was at Lynn's studio when we were looking at them. Lynn's makeup and hair designer Donna did a great job. It was very thoughtfully and artfully concieved.
