In exciting January news, the @walthamforestecho have confirmed that Walthamstow Central will be receiving nearly 2m in investment in time for when @sohotheatre’s new E17 branch: The EMD Theatre, opens later this year.
According the the Echo, a "theatrical promenade" will light up the path from the tube station to the site of the old Granada Theatre and former home to the much missed deco-style Mirth, Marvel and Maud. Money spent on additional lighting will aim to make Central feel safer and brighter at nighttime.
In addition, the theatre will gain a side-entrance off of the cobbled Hatherly Mews, which will also receive funding to encourage it to develop further as a culture corner 🎭 Tramworks is currently home to yoga & reformer Pilates studio, @eastofeden17, the best pizza in town at @sodopizzalondon, and of course, the new ceramics studio everyone’s taking about - @skandihus_london.
The 100-year-old, heritage street with it’s unique architectural value, will be festooned with a canopy of lanterns and any buildings which are currently not let will be converted into commercial spaces, while a remaining unit will become accommodation for performers… can’t wait to see what new businesses join them!
Having lived in Finsbury Park and enjoyed it’s @parktheatrelondon, the new venue is going to be an incredibly special community asset when it arrives. Whether it’s live music, plays, comedy or creative workshops that you’re after, there should hopefully be something for everyone 🧡
