"[The crowd at Woodstock] was like an army of ants. Pretty soon, if you moved your foot, another foot would take its place and you’d have to step down somewhere else. For the rest of the weekend, I never saw my friends again. But it didn’t matter. I had 400,000 other friends all around me.” -Carl Porter, Woodstock Attendee

“There was an amazing energy, and once you surrendered to it, you could just keep going… It was a sensational feeling to be used by the energy. What ran Woodstock was the spirit of volunteerism, that instant life-support system.” -Hugh Romney, peace activist and founder of the Hog Farm collective

“Woodstock is the biggest mass of people ever gathered together for anything other than war.” -John Lennon
Today marks the 53rd anniversary of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Over half a million people made the journey to that 600-acre farm. Woodstock was very much a movement and protest in support of peace during the Vietnam war. The festival changed Rock & Roll as we know it, and it was a defining moment for the counterculture movement.
In addition to its strong message, Woodstock featured 32 impressive musical acts. Some names included Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Janis Joplin, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and many more. What was your favorite act from the festival?
