Thank you so much @vampyrobin for this beautiful drawing! It’s honestly one of the biggest joys and humbling experiences to see Virgin reinterpreted by other artists. ❤️❤️🙌🙌 I think it’s so important for artists to credit those who inspire their work. So often I see people, mainly drag queens tbh, blatantly copying designers, or other artists without any reference point for where they got their inspiration. It’s not only lazy, it’s rude and it’s kinda *theft*- if the idea didn’t come from you, then it doesn’t belong to you and credit must be given where it’s DUE. #PERIODwithChrist ❗️ The art world is a community- we should be showing support to one another and raising each other up, NOT stealing from one another and masking the creativity of others as our own. Don’t be that girl. Do unto others as you’d have them do unto you. Treat other artists as you’d like them to treat you. There’s literally no excuse to treat us as anything less than the deities we are. You want us at your event- pay us well and treat us respectfully. Communicate efficiently, don’t expect us to do your job on top of our own, we have enough on our plate this month as it is, being the 1 month a year where we, the marginalised queers, are in high demand. Make sure we feel safe- don’t wait for us to tell you we don’t. Make sure we are getting to and from the event safely- understand that if we present as queer, we are in danger when in public. Period. We WILL get shit from the world for being who we are and that’s a year round thing, not just in June. It happens to me every single time I go out in drag. Trust that WE know what works and doesn’t work in our existence and SUPPORT US IN STAYING SAFE. And for Gawd’s sake do not question us regarding ANY OF THE ABOVE. Happy #pride everyone! I’m so happy I found my community, my tribe, my FRIENDS. I’m in an exciting place with my identity rn… I’m feeling more and more comfortable presenting myself however I like lately… usually there was Drew, and Virgin. The two identities seem to be merging a bit… I’m allowing my femme-ness to be more present in my non drag life, and honestly it’s so liberating. Clothes don’t make the identity-but they can affirm how we feel and present our identities… just feeling more comfortable in my skin these days and I have my community and those closest to me to thank for always supporting and being there for me. ❤️❤️❤️ So I want to start this pride month by saying THANK YOU to those who I love, and who love me as I am.
