We found an incredible artist 👩‍🎨 for the second season in a row from our artist competition to design the cover of this season’s box! We thought @hannahgumbo captured Ellen’s spirit and the farewell theme so well. We asked Hannah a few questions about her work and wanted share them with you! Plus, don’t Mia Hannah taking over @theellenshop today AT 10am PST, so TUNE IN! WHAT INSPIRES YOUR ART? Well, inspiration is really everywhere if you start to look, but some of my favorites ways to “stock the pond” of creativity are: rummaging through estate sales, clearing my head with a walk around the neighborhood, connecting with a friend over coffee ☕️ , driving somewhere new (roadside attractions are a personal fave), & of course a good Pinterest search (best done in bed, surrounded by pillows & pets). WHAT DOES THE ARTWORK YOU CREATED FOR BE KIND. MEAN TO YOU? Most of the work I create centers around color, positivity, and joy and this box was no different. I am so thrilled and honored to not only create a BE KIND. box design, but to help celebrate 19 seasons of The Ellen Show. With a longstanding history of dance, celebration, and laughter…there was no lack of inspiration for this project! The hardest part, as it often is, was whittling down the ideas to the final design. It’s also special because Ellen is a Louisiana girl like me 😊 WHAT KIND OF MESSAGE DO YOU WANT TO PASS ON THROUGH YOUR ART? I believe every artist leaves a trace of themselves behind in their work. Humans are complex so depending on the piece, I may infuse different facets of myself. Sometimes it’s playful, silly, and light-hearted 🌈. Other times, it’s melancholy and reflective. I’m just amazed at the power of creativity. The fact that I can share a piece of my brain with you and make a small connection, even though we haven’t met, is pretty cool.
