A year into my Executive Assistant to the EIC job at Marie Claire magazine I attended the “Marie Claire welcomes it’s new fashion director @ninagarcia” party (most likely there to hold my bosses purse) at Milk Studios. Lindsay Lohan was that month’s cover star and Marie Claire was gently dipping it’s toes into reality television with “Running In Heels” for the now defunct “Style Network”. The party was a Nina/Lindsay twofor. Lindsay was running late (😬) probably furious about the reality show cameras being at the party and doing everything in her power to avoid them. Controlled chaos all around me when I notice the Olsen twins on the red carpet. I made a beeline to our Entertainment Director @danastern25 who went way back to the Olsens kiddie days. “Dana, I NEED a photo with Mary Kate”. As soon as I uttered those words both Mary Kate and Ashley step off the red carpet straight into Dana’s arms. After a few hugs and kisses Dana says “Mary Kate, do you mind taking a photo with Sergio”, Ashley awkwardly stepped aside. To this day I’m not quite sure why I passed on the chance of being in the middle of two icons… Maybe it’s the fact that Kanye’s lyrics from N*E*R*D’s “Everyone Nose (All the Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom)” [Remix] only mention Mary Kate… Oh well. Thank you Dana! And happy birthday #AshleyOlsen & #MaryKateOlsen September 10, 2008

Saturday Night Fever: “Somewhere In My Heart” by Aztec Camera. 💜 This song became one of my all time favorites the moment I first heard it back in the 90’s. It exudes happiness and feels like a perfect summer day, no matter the season! Released in 1988, it was the 3rd single from “Love” - the 3rd album from a Scottish band Aztec Camera, founded by Roddy Frame - the group's singer, songwriter, and only consistent member during its 6 albums career, which began in 1980. “Somewhere In My Heart” became the biggest hit in the band’s career and reached number three in the UK as well as top 40 in Australia and Ireland. This performance is from Top of the Pops, May 19, 1988 #AztecCamera
Put the pep in your step… 💗 Happiest birthday to the legendary Nancy Sinatra! There are no videos of her performing my two favorites - her glorious cover of Morrissey’s “Let Me Kiss You” or “McArthur Park” (prominently featured in the last Absolutely Fabulous film) famously recorded and made her own by Donna Summer, but here’s Nancy performing another timeless classic “On Broadway”, recorded famously by The Drifters and George Benson. @nancysinatra on a 1966 TV Special. #NancySinatra

Saturday Night Fever: “Got To Be Real” by Cheryl Lynn. This masterpiece was released on August 14, 1978 and written by Lynn, David Paich (co-founder, songwriter, keyboardist & singer of the rock band Toto) and the legendary producer David Foster (Ray “Ghostbusters” Parker, Jr. was also the session guitarist on the track). This timeless feel good anthem was Cheryl’s debut single taken from her self-titled debut album. It hit number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart in early 1979, selling a million copies. Those vocals! Since it’s release it’s been featured in “Paris Is Burning”, “South Park” and most famously in “Sex & The City” season 4, episode 2 - “oh my god, she’s fashion roadkill!” This performance is from Soul Train, 1978
Back in my executive assistant to the Editor in Chief of @marieclairemag days our entertainment director booked Angelina Jolie for the January 2012 cover. It was Angie’s directorial debut, a film called “In The Land Of Blood And Honey”, which tells a turbulent love story set during the Bosnian war in the 1990’s. “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” it was not. In the weeks leading up to the film’s release we launched the cover (shot by Alexei Hay) and hosted a screening of the film at the Hearst Tower. My only goal was to meet Angelina! She was and still is this magical force, who may or may not be out of this earth. She arrived to a sea of people waiting for a glimpse of her at the cocktail reception. Flashing lights everywhere, a complete zoo. I barely saw the back of her head and in a blink of an eye she was out of my sight. We were all whisked away to the screening room, Angie did not stay, but less than 2 hours later she was back for the post film q&a. Backstage my boss @joannacoles introduced us. “Angie, Sergio was dying to meet you, he was born in the Ukraine and I’m sure can relate to the film”. (I guess in some way most of us Eastern Europeans can relate to eachother in one way or another.) Our eyes met, she asked what I thought of the film and I remember making a very literal connection between Ukraine and Bosnia. For those 3 minutes I had her undivided attention. It’s as if no one else was around us. Suddenly I heard Joanna’s voice again “Angie, Sergio writes a column and I’m sure he would love a photo with you for the column!” “Sure said Angie, do we have a photographer?” “I’d like it on my phone please, let’s use the photo booth app” “Photobooth? I don’t think I’ve ever taken a photobooth photo before” “Wow, how many people can say they had a FIRST with Angelina Jolie???” Angie laughed. That moment and laugh forever immortalized in this photo. December 6, 2011 🖤 Happy Birthday icon! #AngelinaJolie
Saturday Night Fever: “Your Disco Needs You” by Kylie Minogue. 🪩 Following Kylie’s pit stop into indie rock with her sixth studio album “Impossible Princess” she returned to her pop roots and released the mega successful “Light Years”. The album produced multiple smash singles, including “Spinning Around”, “On A Night Like This”, the Robbie Williams duet “Kids” and “Please Stay”. Most Kylie fans waited patiently for “Your Disco…” to be released as a single, it was such an obvious fan favorite! Written by Guy Chambers (Texas, Melanie C, Tom Jones, Diana Ross, Rufus Wainwright), Kylie and Robbie Williams, the song caused a ruckus amongst her UK fans. Considered to be the Kyliest of Kylie anthems, it was not released as a single in the UK as the record label deemed it too campy. The fans protested outside of Parlophone Records but that didn’t get them far. For some strange reason it was only released as a single in 🇩🇪 and 🇦🇺 with a 1970’s disco inspired music video to boot and has been performed on most of Kylie’s tours since it came out. I always considered it Kylie’s homage to “YMCA” or “Go West” (which are ultimately the same song anyway). This performance is from Germany’s uber famous Wetten Dass variety show, January 20, 2001 #KylieMinogue@kylieminogue
