Saturday Night Fever: “Your Disco Needs You” by Kylie Minogue. 🪩 Following Kylie’s pit stop into indie rock with her sixth studio album “Impossible Princess” she returned to her pop roots and released the mega successful “Light Years”. The album produced multiple smash singles, including “Spinning Around”, “On A Night Like This”, the Robbie Williams duet “Kids” and “Please Stay”. Most Kylie fans waited patiently for “Your Disco…” to be released as a single, it was such an obvious fan favorite! Written by Guy Chambers (Texas, Melanie C, Tom Jones, Diana Ross, Rufus Wainwright), Kylie and Robbie Williams, the song caused a ruckus amongst her UK fans. Considered to be the Kyliest of Kylie anthems, it was not released as a single in the UK as the record label deemed it too campy. The fans protested outside of Parlophone Records but that didn’t get them far. For some strange reason it was only released as a single in 🇩🇪 and 🇦🇺 with a 1970’s disco inspired music video to boot and has been performed on most of Kylie’s tours since it came out. I always considered it Kylie’s homage to “YMCA” or “Go West” (which are ultimately the same song anyway).
