Costa Rica Day: 2 La Fortuna
We had just finished our hike when we ran into this Satiny Parrot snake!
Parrot snakes where once thought to be non-venomous but were later found to be very mildly venomous.
The confusion came from the parrot snake being a opisthoglyphous snake, or a rear fanged snake, making its injection of venom quite a process compared to frontal fanged snakes.

Costa Rica Day 1: La Fortuna
This was another really exciting find for me. An Emerald Basilisk! Males like this one will grow a crest along their head and back. Basilisks are famous for their knack of being able to run on water, earning themselves the name "The jesus Christ Lizard"

Costa rica day 1: La Fortuna.
Okay. Not the most exciting thing to post first up, but its incredible seeing Leafcutter ants in person. These little guys create little highways so they can take the leaf bits back to their colony, where the the leaves are used to cultivate fungi which creates a food source for the ants.

Saw this Common side bloctched lizard on our hike this weeked.
These southern Californian natives are known for their polymorphism. The males of this species are seen in 3 different morphs each one sporting different traits such as color, size, and speed.
Each form competes with the other, never fully outshining their rival morph; and leaving the species in a constant flux of these 3 morphs.

Stumbled on this California Katydid right at my front door last night.
The Californian angle wing Katydid is actually the smallest of the angle wing katydid species in North America!
And yes. I named it Katy the Katydid.

And the award for most photogenic gecko goes to this Gold Dust Gecko!!
Although these little guys are found all over Hawaii they actually originate from Madagascar!

Caught this amazing Speckled Kingsnake. A gorgeous inhabitant of Louisiana. And structural part of the local ecosystem, they are part of the ophiophagus species or snake eating snakes. Earning their title of "King". The lovely snake charmer @avesmyers became fast friends with the little kingsnake.
Its spring time!! Ive been seeing tons of little Blue bellys around the house. The Western Fence Lizard get its nickname from the iridescent blues on its belly and neck. #bluebellylizard#lizard#losangeleswildlife
Found this great little Ribbon Snake while, again, doing yard work out in Louisiana. This little guy was just trying to warm up in the sun today. #ribbonsnake#snakes#louisiana
