It takes a long time to design a product from scratch… especially compared to a readily available white label product (that is exactly like everyone else’s). The new GRIT took 2 years and several attempts at creating a formulation that will build texture in the hair but still stay flexible and workable. Basically I work on products until they are my absolute favourite one in their market segment… a line-up of hero products… all killer no filler. NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO LOOK PERFECT AND POLISHED! Some guys want to look like they just pulled off their motorcycle helmet and styled their hair with the grease and grime that is leftover on their hands from fixing the chain (cause they aren’t afraid to get those hands dirty). He don’t want a fancy looking fade, a carved in part line, or a paint on beard. He didn’t find a hairstyle on Pinterest, he doesn’t follow any barbers on his Instagram, his own page contains no selfies, and he don’t want to be in your tik tok video.… He’s a handsome dirtbag He just wants to look cool.

@djopperman was one of my first models for @victorybrandproducts. All of the images you have ever seen of mine are usually friends who I just did a cut for and snapped some pictures of. Over the years it has managed to build a community of people that have been involved in some way for making our brand what it is… a collection of great stories and great friends. It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to connect and now we live in different parts of the world but this weekend he made the trip down from LA to be my model for my class @probeautyassoc ISSE where I taught about how to create my “handsome dirtbag” look. Dave is one of those friends where you you feel like no time has passed regardless of how long it’s been. No matter where life takes you hang onto those friendships… they are the only wealth worth having.

Surround yourself with great people and great things will happen. so grateful for this amazing squad of friends this weekend.

As we get ready for another show (this weekends @probeautyassoc ISSE in long beach) I am reminded of what I love most about all this… it’s the relationships I’ve built with amazing people. People like @mikeinthegables who trusts me to trim his MONSTER beard on stage for the second year in a row. People like all the amazing artists who I have been able to share my platform with over the years who have often travelled very far to support me and my tiny bit mighty brand. The people who sit in the chair, the people in the crowd, and the people who write to me to tell me they were inspired by something I said or did that made them excited to cut hair again. We aren’t just in the creative haircutting business we are in the people business… and it’s all of you people that make this job so much fun. Can’t wait to see you all in LONGBEACH!

I am loving the new GRIT from @victorybrandproducts. It makes the hair feel so thick and gives me more volume for those hairstyles that need a little ooompf! It’s great to pair up with super-dry for those “handsome dirtbag” hairstyles I am known for.
