“I don’t think of myself as being old, but I guess I’m pretty old now,” she says, trailing off with a laugh. “So I do have a lot of stories to tell, and a pretty adventurous life. It’s not like I grew up in a town, got married, and stayed there.”
I spoke to Debbie a few months ago for her feature in V Magazine, and was honored to do so! You can read the full story in our new September issue, hitting newsstands this week.

@slayyyter joined me on @vwannaknow to further cultivate her pre-existing obsession with whales (and particularly orcas in this case). We spoke to Dr. Michael Weiss (unofficially known as hot whale guy) about Blackfish, whether or not we will ever be able to communicate with whales, and that one time researchers dropped acid with dolphins.

Traveled to Seoul for the first time to meet @lalalalisa_m and witness/document our cover shoot with one of the world’s most beloved stars.
I did a little research and Lisa of Blackpink is far more Googled these days than the Mona Lisa itself. What does it mean? Literally nothing, but I sure did use that as a starting point for the text.
The special hardbound edition features a Q&A between Lisa and myself in addition to the piece I wrote for the standard edition, on newsstands soon :)

Can’t Cope after Hagen such a nice time in Denmark 🥹 Extremely appreciative of @cphfw for inviting me and working as a team on our special #CHPFW zine starring @officialomar. Also grateful to everyone who came to celebrate @vman at @sohohousecopenhagen, and especially to my Australian/Danish QUEEN @isabella_rose_celeste.
@finargus joined me on @vwannaknow to learn about the history of gender queerness with associate professor and author Eric Stanley. Stream at the link in bio!
Once upon a time…@brookecandy joined me to learn about fairytales from Dr. Jeana Jorgensen. She taught us that, for example, there is a version of Sleeping Beauty where the prince has sex with her while she’s asleep, gets her pregnant, she gives birth to two babies, all without waking up…or how in the original cinderella, her evil sisters have their eyes pecked out by pigeons, and other fucked up shit!
Head to the link in bio to listen.
Thank you to the one an only @brookecandy!!!
And to @ryankilliankrause for production and @citizensofsound for editing.
My favorite prank is pretending to be a server for friends who don’t know I’m in the country. Here is me in Malibu pranking my cousin Jennie, my next door neighbor growing up and best friend for 31 years, who somehow did not see thru my extremely horrible wig nor accent. Swipe to the end for reveal. (The other cousins knew and filmed this)
“I wouldn’t leave L.A. if the whole place tipped over into the ocean,” late author Eve Babitz wrote for her character Mary in 1977’s ‘Slow Days, Fast Company.’ “She was too tough and too fragile for anyplace else.”
In her music video for “everything i wanted,” Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas drive a car along the streets of Los Angeles before submerging themselves in the Pacific. “I had a dream,” she sings, “I got everything I wanted / Not what you’d think / And if I’m being honest, it might’ve been a nightmare.”
That city, famously, is one where dreams and nightmares abound. It’s where Marilyn Monroe was born and became a star, but also where fellow Hollywood darling Sharon Tate was murdered. It’s home to Malibu’s pristine beaches, which inspired sex-fueled shows like ‘Baywatch,’ just as it’s home to over 62,000 wildfires each year. Billionaires, those Americans who’ve “made it,” live a short Tesla drive away from roughly 8,000 homeless people lining Skid Row. In LA, utopia and dystopia coincide. It is the tension between these two extremes that has formed much of Eilish’s artistry—tough, but fragile, the stuff of dreams and nightmares.
“I live a very high-highs and low-lows type of life,” Eilish says over the phone from LA. It’s midnight in California, and she’s just wrapped rehearsals for the current world tour of Happier Than Ever, her sophomore album. “I’m just that kind of person. Everything feels huge or tiny.”
