#LeicaTips – Creating Mystery & Intrigue
✔️ Create silhouettes. This is probably the easiest way to add a bit of mystery to your photos as no detail can be seen in the subject, leaving the viewer intrigued about what or who they’re looking at and thus creating a longer-lasting impression.
✔️ Hide your subject’s face. Photographing your subject from behind in combination with an interesting backdrop adds mystery. Getting them to wear a bulky jacket additionally forms a strong shape against the background, making for a captivating shot.
✔️ Use selective focusing. Creating a shallow depth of field can also create intrigue as you lose the pieces of detail you'd normally have otherwise.

The Coastal Dwellers
20 years ago, Australian photographer Narelle Autio won the 2002 #LOBA for her lively picture series dedicated to beach life. Her complex compositions represent a homage to the beauty of the Australian coastal landscape and convinced the jury, with their content and form, that the series best captured the competition’s theme of humanity’s relationship with the environment.
“I have always found inspiration around water, especially the ocean. The winning series was the beginning of a larger body of work called ‘Watercolours’ which I have continued to work on to this day”. – Narelle Autio

#LeicaTips – Using Location to Tell Your Story
✔️ Take some time to think about the story you want to tell with your image and choose your aperture setting intentionally.
✔️ Show your subject relating or engaging with the location and position yourself accordingly. Depending on your angle, you can capture quite a unique shot.
✔️ Use light to draw attention to certain elements and capture the mood you want.

#LeicaTips – Working With Shadows
✔️ Add the Element of Abstract: Keep an eye out for interesting patterns, shapes and designs and then visualize where and how the light will interact.
✔️ Use Harsh Light: You don’t always have to wait for the golden hour. For a bit of a dramatic flair, shoot in harsh sunlight.
✔️ Make the shadow your focus: Rather than using shadows to compliment another element in your picture, get creative and make them your subject.
