Trying to look glamorous while doing a can can kick (I am not a dancer) and swinging my head up and around to get my hair flying. “Wonderful” the photographer kept saying. “Again” 😵‍💫 Finally he captured this and we wrapped. Another girl came into the shoot with quite a bit of attitude and the photographer was not impressed. He had her crouch down holding her dress. They laid my shot and hers next to each other on opposite pages of the magazine so when it was published it looked like I was kicking her in the behind. I kid you not. Women’s Wear Daily was/is the bible of fashion and came out in print every day. Here on the front page announcing the new trend, flared bolero jackets. Was a fun shoot and a fun era. Although every decade has its problems. I had begun volunteering for my friend, Gary Bonasote’s new nonprofit called CRIA, the Community Research Initiative on AIDS. No one knew what was really happening with AIDS. A lot of gay men were struggling as it ravaged NY communities. And there was fear and they were being ostracized. Working for Vogue in Brazil. I went down there with Katie Ford to open Ford in San Paolo. Eileen was looking to have her own agencies around the world instead of relying on relationships with agents that may not treat her models well. She wanted some established models to go to the opening party and handle the press so I flew down from NY. I ended up staying 3 months. Lovely people, generous, fun loving, despite widespread poverty. They really were amazing. One of the last times I lived overseas as a model. 1990’s.
