Celebrating the first buildings completed as part of a fire rebuild for the Harbin Hot Springs retreat center (@harbin_hot_springs); the Northern California facility suffered an almost total loss as a result of the Valley Fire in 2015. We departed from the spherical design of the original structures on this site, and found a complimentary expression through cubic buildings with a barrel vaulted roof. The color scheme was inspired by the surrounding natural environment in homage to Harbin's core mission to connect with nature as a transformative experience. Our local Denver Office community in Boulder County has been devastated in the last few days by the Marshall Fire, which has destroyed more than 1,000 homes in the Louisville and Superior areas. More than 30,000 people were evacuated from their homes due to the fire that swept through at an alarming rate, burning football field’s worth in mere seconds as a result of high winds and unseasonably dry conditions. We wanted to let you, our Instagram community, know that our neighbors are in need of assistance. The Boulder County Wildfire Fund has been set up to support the immediate and long term needs of Coloradans impacted by this fire. While the road ahead for many of the affected families is just the beginning, they know that they are not alone in this. The Community Foundation Boulder County, the fund owner and administrator, is a trusted partner with a lengthy track record of meeting the community’s needs in times a crisis. As we reflect on 2021, we want to thank you for the ride. It was a challenging year for most everyone. Here at Lars Langberg Architects, we said goodbye to those we lost and said hello to new one’s we met; we began new projects and completed others; we survived fires, being snowed in, and covid-fatigue all of which tested the limits of our resilience; and, still we rose having weathered it with grace. Our team showed up every day giving the best of themselves, staying creative, doing beautiful work, and helped make this firm an inspired place to work. We’re filled with gratitude and hope.
