“A Limb” To describe to you more graphically how ‘we feel. I’m being asked that a lot and usually avoid answering it all together, because with all due compassion.. I don’t enjoy making somebody feel slight percentage of what I do (although it’s often inevitable with some) .. here is my answer I feel like a limb Separated from it’s body Yet a fully functioning limb Think of that little running hand from Adam’s family A type of hand that knows that the body she belongs to is being attacked every minute of the day, operated on, stitched together, and have those fresh scars cut open again and again. Feeling every inch of her beautiful body being punished by evil for existing in her power. It’s how I feel and many people from Ukraine outside Ukraine feel. Not to make this any heavy on you. My Dear Babusya, Another Mother’s Day without you Although the first time I’m feeling at ease you’re not here to witness the horrors that was brought upon your home, again. My dearest, I met many women, your age too.. leaving, in fear, grieving. Surviving this pain resiliently through what you had survived when you were a little girl. More than ever I now understand your strength, your will for freedom, continuous independence. You were always my role model, style icon and questioner of norms. I’ve always been proud of our strong female bloodline, our Sumy town-boss-babe-Show-stoppers. Your mother, hid wounded soldiers in the basement while you sang “blue handkerchief” to create noise to distract the Nazi who ate at your house day after day, so brave. You traveled the world, being a leader for many - pregnant you worked till your last day of pregnancy with my beautiful mother, out of all places in Kazakhstan. And brought her back to Sumy where she needed to grow up, I love this second picture of you two celebrating the May1, Labor Day. My mom hated this outfit because it was too unique from her mates. Granny, you looked good and you engraved good style into my mom - until this day she dresses like no other. I wish I got that from you both . She ,like you, traveled the world and gave birth to me in the farthest corner of the earth. Very North East of Siberia to bring me back to our Sumy and Okhtyrka where you made me the person I am, you taught me to speak English, bicycles, fishing, milking goats, residing poetry publicly , gardening, massaging, talking to animals and flowers, and not taking any shit from men (you were a Queen!).. god so much more you gave. The best thing a woman can do for other women is to be truly herself. Because it’s in the Midst of a fog of trying to be like we’re told to be we keep out of touch from our deeper happiness. We must Own our desires And be okay with what we are, who we became, how we’re changing, or how we don’t change , how we question things, how we fold with circumstances and unfold the next moment. We are ultimately the most beautiful when we get in touch with our OwN individual true nature. I’ve been learning it recently the more unique the women I meet, I watch how happy they are crafting their own paths, choosing for their destinies unwritten by others. It is so beautiful to watch us be strong, solid, soft, vulnerable - all kinds of ways. These words can of course be dedicated to all genders but I’ve genuinely been fascinated by the women I’ve met recently that inspire me now daily .. Before taking off to Ukraine each day, our team would make the most delicious 🤤 breakfasts in the morning to share with all people coming through the border (into Ukraine from Poland) . They have been sitting in the mile+ long line of cars for 3-4 days before they were let through. These are our happy highlights. Coming back and seeing the same faces next day that were so happy to get fresh hot Chocolate and a super drink that United probably the entire camp as well —— it’s called CHAI ! My goodness .. I can’t begin to describe you how incredible it is - Chacha ( everyone’s favorite uncle ) would cook all day starting 7am until probably about 9pm .. This man is a Saint I’m convinced - and the Chai he makes- nobody’s chai will ever compare - because he puts his love into it and you just feel it with every Sip. @zhuchkin and I fell in love with everyone the moment we arrived to the border. Through hundreds of very emotionally difficult moments, we had as many miraculously beautiful moments as well. Friendships that I’m convinced will last a lifetime I’m so so so proud of our tireless suoercamp at Medyka #humanityfirst #ukraineborder On photos 2 Ukrainian Superdogs :))) Well taken Care of and well loved; as soon as they crossed to Poland , little Terminator (white baby doggie) got all his medicine and food, he was still very thin and shaking when the photo was take. but all well now :))) You should hear some incredible cat rescuing missions from @zhuchkin — I hope she shares them too - I mean this woman is a hero
