Protect Biscayne Bay and skip the fertilizer between
May 15 and October 31st.
Fertilizers contain nutrients like nitrogen to make plants
grow, but when too much fertilizer is applied to the land,
it runs off into our waterways and can cause big
problems like algae blooms.
Algae blooms can kill wildlife, smother seagrass, turn our
beautiful blue water green, and can become harmful to
human health.
We can't risk Biscayne Bay becoming a dead zone.

Many people pride themselves on their green spaces and
rely on fertilizer to maintain lawns. Fertilizer is helpful
for maintaining a healthy lawn, but from May 15 -
October 31, it’s actually not necessary.
What the fertilizer companies don’t want you to know is
there is so much rain during the summer that plants don't
have time to absorb the nutrients in fertilizer before it is
washed away into the storm drains, polluting Biscayne
Bay.
Don’t let fertilizer (and your money) go down the drain —
skip the fertilizer during the rainy season.
