It’s important for emotional, mental, and physical health to learn to safely experience our core emotions. (The core emotions are anger, sadness, fear, disgust, joy, excitement, & sexual excitement). Tragically, we are taught to bury our emotions in our dysfunctional society. But burying emotions creates anxiety and depression. (That was originally news to me too!) Learning to name, validate, and process core emotions builds wellbeing: calm, confidence and connectedness. And we need skills, knowledge, and tools to do this for ourselves and help our children with emotions as well.
I use the Change Triangle to understand and work with my and other’s emotions. I cannot imagine my personal or professional life without it. It’s a true game-changer for emotional health.
I linked in my bio today two articles on sadness: “How to Release Sadness: Lessons from Experiential Psychotherapy” and “Being With Sadness.” I hope they expand your horizons and toolset. Click on link above in the profile to read one or both.
