i wrote an essay about turning 30, break ups and the similarities i’ve noticed between the recent work of female pop artists like adele, hayley williams and florence.
this is emotionally intelligent music by artists who want to mark the second puberty of that era of life (turning 30 is a big milestone!) and explore through music what it means to be a woman and have a healthy relationship to yourself and other people.
i started thinking about this in 2020 and have wanted to write about it for a long while. i’m relieved it’s done.
it’s in the new florence issue of @rollingstoneuk as a companion piece to the cover profile and you can read it online now!
dozens of late nights in lockdown, multiple tearful conversations with friends, many confused first drafts, thousands of pounds and at least one nervy b later, i got my mfa in goblin studies*
